Hi Bluelight,
I have tried searching for this on a number of occassions, but I have had no luck thus far, however I may not have hit the right search terms, so my apologies if this has already been discussed on the board.
My partner, a friend, and I have all seemed to experience that Codeine linctus (15mg/5ml, only with colourings and flavourings) does not have as strong an effect as the equivalent dose of cold water extracted Co-Codamol or Nurofen+ pills. This result seems reliable between two brands and the sugar-free and normal versions (four different versions in total). A complete example ingredience list of the normal variety is as folows:
Even 1.5-1.75 times more codeine in linctus form seems less efficient than other forms -- only really reaching a +/- effect. Can anybody explain this discrepency? It seems very unlikely, but could the viscocity of the linctus affect the rate of absorbtion to the extent percieved? Has anybody else noticed this?
The Co-Codamol, N+ and linctus are all purchased from legitimate and reliable pharmacies in my country. Tolerance has been (as much as possible) ruled out by trying a large dose of linctus, charting the effect and a much smaller dose of CWE codeine the following day and noting that the CWE was unanimously believed to be stronger.
As a quick side note, I believe that this is related to harm reduction because being able to use linctus instead of extracted Co-Codamol would lower the amount of paracetamol that we consume when we take Codeine.
I hope you all stay safe and have a kickass day!
