Just wondered if anyone has any solid information on this? I first noticed this myself when dosing with 7.5mg of zopiclone approx 2 hours after 60mg of co-codamol(uk preparation of 500mg paracetamol and 30mg codeine phoshate hemihydrate). when taken like this the zopiclone doesnt feel like its had any effect, even to the point of me re-dosing the zopiclone so I could sleep. Im not the only person to have experienced this as a couple of freinds have said the same. This doesnt seem to happen with dihydrocodeine 60mg ir with zopiclone or tramadol 100mg ir, if anything these two synergize really well. Any information appreciated. Thanks

in theory codeine and other opioids that release large amounts of histamine could enhance wakefulness in some individuals

It may just be a quirk of some people body chemistry, mine included. I have noticed this variable more then once. Sekio you may be on the right track with the histamine theory, I get much more histamine release with codeine then with dihydrocodeine.

Personally, I do not feel very sedate from zopiclone anyway, even with high doses (20mg). Nor do I get a metallic taste, or hypnogogic hallucinations. They seem to do less than a glass of beer or wine.

It may just be you expect too much from zopiclone.

I understand what your saying sekio but ive been taking zopiclone for nearly two years(not good I know). This problem has always been there and I always otherwise get full effects including funny taste, hypnogogic state etc. thanks for the input sekio I appreciate you taking the time to answer.:-)
