Codeine... for Narcolepsy? EXPLAIN!?

So I'm looking on Wikipedia just to figure out what classification of sleep disorders Narcolepsy lies in to refresh my memory.

I scroll down somewhat and my screen stops at "treatment" for a second

I see "Codeine"

WHY in the world would Codeine be used for Narcolepsy?

Is Wikipedia trolling me again?

2 seconds of google searching leads me to find that it works as a treatment, narcoleptics use Xyrem which is normally a sedative too...

And benzos... but I believe GBH and Benzos are used because they suppress REM sleep, right?

GHB is mainly used because it has the least effect on REM sleep though a common problem with narcolepsy is going into REM sleep almost instantly after falling asleep. Lots of medications have off label uses and the use of codeine for a sleep condition is not that surprising.

Why use codeine instead of the time proven treatments of amphetamine or methamphetamine?

Aren't a lot of typical 'depressants' stimulating at low doses, before they start to depress the CNS? (eg. alcohol, opiods maybe?)

Your mileage may vary, I reckon in cases like this its highly dependant on the user.
