A friend of a friend of mine recently used a Cold Water Extraction method. She recently had her wisdom teeth removed and was prescribed T3s. She crushed 10 pills, each containing 300/15/30mg of Acetaminophen/Caffeine/Codeine. She then dissolved the pills in about 100ml of luke-warm water and placed the glass in the freezer.

She then made a cone filter with 1 sheet of premium paper towel and dumped the contents of the glass down it. 1hr later she consumed the filtered mixture diluted with some ginger ale.

She is concerned because the mixture was slightly cloudy and there are small crystals on the side of the glass. There would have been 3000mg of Acetaminophen in the mixture if it was not properly filtered. Could these crystals or the cloudiness be an amount of acetaminophen greater than 1000mg? She took the filtered mixture 40 minutes ago and is feeling some effects (milder than she expected). However she is feeling worried and experiencing mild palpitations, likely due to her anxiety.

Can anyone say from their own or a friend's experience if she will be OK? In the best case she should have consumed < 300mg of codeine which is pretty safe.

Most people should handle 3000mg of acetaminophen. I know I've ingested quadruple that before and my blood work turns up fine. Caffeine absorption in cold water isn't that great afaik. It's probably in her head.

Supposedly a single 4000mg dose of Acetaminophen will kill you. I am astounded by your account.

That's the supposed official limit, but people have had liver toxicity and death with amounts smaller than that. I know I'd put away 15-20 7.5/750 or 10/500 hydrocodones a day back in my "youth."

Even if she didn't do the best job filtering, I'd guess she got rid off at least half of acetaminophen.

acetaminophen is nowhere near that toxic.

If you have a functioning liver you can generally tolerate up to ~10 grams before problems start to occur. The 4 gram limit is for continuously taking it, no more than 4 grams in a 24 hour period says the FDA. It's not the lethal dose.

Acetaminophen just isn't very harmful to most people. If you take it everyday for years, you should worry. If you're elderly or have liver problems (hepatitis), same. Otherwise, don't go to the doctor unless you get sick after taking something with APAP.

Closing this commonly asked question. You can't really tell how much APAP is dissolved by looking at a solution.
