Hi all this is my second thread / post here. Well Ive been using some leftover tram lately for recreational purposes I guess you can say. I only pop em if im dead tired in the morning(and that's every weekday morning LOL) and just spend my weekends crashing LOL. But Saturday I had to pop tram to keep myself awake/get some energy cause I had a lot of school work to get done and barely slept. Later that Saturday night I got drunk and high off weed but nothing bad really happened like I thought it would, since i took 200mg of tram in the morning. I felt this buzz/high till Sunday evening(no hangover too!) until I took a big nap. Well that big nap prevented me from getting any sleep tonight and I don't want to fuck up my sleep schedule so I want to keep myself awake today. I want to save my tram so im probably going to pop some codeine(TEC 3). So my question are:

a) (noob question sorry) Do you think the codeine will do the trick? make me feel awake/elevated till tonight? what do you think is a good dose for this?
b) Do you think Its a bit risky since I got drunk, high, and popped 200mgs of tram all in a day(even though that was two days ago)?
c) Since I plan on popping tram tomorrow for school, do you think something strange could happened since there still might be codeine in my system(and even liquor and weed...)?

thanks.

a) Absolutely not. No. Tramadol, is a unique opioid that also acts a Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor (SSRI) and it's its these serotonergic effects that are you giving you a higher buzz. As opposed to Codeine which is quite sedating in equipotent doses. Because Codeine does not have SSRI properties, you wont be able to do an exact conversion calculation, in the same way that you can't for Methadone to Morphine, or Tapentadol to Fentanyl. However, 200mg of Tramadol would be somewhere within the range of:

144mg (100mg-200mg) <click to see>
200mg (133mg-266mg) <click to see>
200mg <click to see>
240mg <click to see>
266mg <click to see>

b) Everything has certain risks, but since that was over 48h ago. You should be okay. Higher doses of codeine 100mg+ may trigger a large histamine release and can make you very, very itchy. A simple antihistamine tablet for hayfever, such as Cetirizine or Loratadine may help. Varies from person to person though. Just something to think about. I've honestly made my scalp bleed from itching it so much in the past when I used to consume high doses of Codeine Phosphate.

c) No, they're very small doses in relation to what the maximum dose of each is. Of which, most manufactures state: a maximum dose of 240mg for Codeine, and 400mg for Tramadol. I've taken ~500mg of Codeine in one sitting several times, so you can take that dosage with a pinch of salt, but stay safe and know your own personal limits. With the Tramadol I have taken over the 400mg but it's really not advisable, anything over 400mg at once, or in 24 hours leaves you liable to a higher possibility of having a seizure.

Hope that helps.

In the interest of harm reduction, may I ask why you're taking Tramadol/Codeine? If you want a buzz to keep you awake you're better off with a high caffeine drink or something high in sugar. There's nothing better for being awake and alert than a good balanced diet and rigorous exercise.

You should understand that Tramadol and Codeine, although weak in contrast to other opiates/opioids are addictive in nature and often lead the way to stronger derivatives. You'll develop a tolerance to them quite quickly and will need 250mg to achieve what 200mg of Tramadol got you last week, the next week you'll need 300mg, then 2 weeks after you're taking 400mg to achieve what 200mg used to do. Then what? You carry on taking it and 400mg does nothing anymore, so you start taking 500mg/600mg and induce a life threatening seizure?

I just want you to think about the long term use of what you're taking, which at now, just seems like a little fun and games. Try and take some time off between doses, eat well & exercise well. I know what BL members are like, myself included, and you'll likely ignore what I'm saying which is fair enough. I know I did. Just try and look after yourself and ALWAYS consult someone from BL if you have a question about doses, potentiators, conversions or something similar. It's always best to get advice from people who've made the mistakes for you ever did.

And welcome to BL :)

Thanks for all the great info. To answer your question its not just to get buzz but my sleep schedule is really delayed so the tramadol keeps me alert and awake during the day so im not snoozing in class haha. It was originally for my knee pains(oschgood schlatter) but now i use it to keep me 100% during the day. And yes i know what you mean. Im not really tramadol dependent yet and i really dont want to risk having a seizure and getting addicted so im definitely stopping when my pills run out. I have counseling sessions too to try and fix my sleeping problems. Thanks again.
