Codeine - First Times - 90 mg, 210 mg, 300 mg
Codeine is available OTC in France without any additives, such as APAP and the rest. Upon learning this fact a week ago, I went to my pharmacy and got some.
The first day, I started off with 90 mg, to feel whether I was allergic to the stuff or not. Needless to say, it produced little if any euphoric effects. I felt absolutely fine.
A few days later, I repeated the experience with 200 mg. The onset was fairly quick, I started to feel the stuff about half and hour after ingestion on an empty stomach. It made me feel relaxed, without any intensity whatsoever. Watching the TV was pleasurable, I felt content.
When I thought I wasn't feeling anything more, I tried to sleep; but I found I couldn't fall asleep. This wasn't problematic at all, since pleasing thoughts went through my mind. Lying there, my eyes closed, not being able to sleep is usually something I hate; yet doing this for an hour or so felt nothing less than slightly euphoric. It isn't like closing your eyes on MDMA; it's more relaxed, less intense, and thoughts don't wander around so much.
Effects lasted about three hours, and I had little if any side effects, other than my hands shaking profusely and an incapacity to piss.
A week later, I took 300 mg. Again, quick onset, about 45 mins, but not on an empty stomach. As the effects kicked in, I was playing the XboX 360. About an hour and a half after ingesting, I started itching everywhere... More worryingly, my hands started to swell, my head rushed and I actually panicked for a few minutes. These are side effects, that I did not feel with the 200 mg.
Turning the console off and lying down resolved this problem, although I admit I was worried this was some allergic reaction that could endanger my health... The feeling went away with time, and so did the effects.
Overall, a slightly less pleasurable experience than the 200 mg, although fairly entertaining. I feel as though 250 mg would be a decent compromise between the nasty side effects and the desired effects - a dosage that I will try next week.
Overall, I was a little disappointed by my first opiate experience, because it was not as euphoric as I'd liked it to be. Although it's obvious it is the weakest of all opiates, I had higher expectations. Codeine is without a doubt a drug to be enjoyed with your eyes closed, or in very, very relaxed circumstances, because the effects are quite difficult to discern if you're doing something that requires attention (even playing a console game).
