Cocaine has 'no future'

Excellent.

^^^^^There are two definitions for the word "narcotic"

Narcotic:
1 a: a drug (as opium or morphine) that in moderate doses dulls the senses, relieves pain, and induces profound sleep but in excessive doses causes stupor, coma, or convulsions b: a drug (as marijuana or LSD) subject to restriction similar to that of addictive narcotics whether physiologically addictive and narcotic or not

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/narcotic
No, there really isn't. :\
The word "narcotic" is from the Greek "narkos" meaning sleep, and as such, narcotics are drugs which induce sleep. I dont need to tell anyone where that cocaine dosen't put people to sleep ;)
In US legal context, "narcotics" are very loosely defined, and very well could mean cocaine, but in terms of chemistry, cocaine is not a narcotic.

Cocaine will never get out of style

the rituals of snorting every half hour hour is what people actually like with this drug as is the numbing.

Sniffed cocaine is a pretty subtle drug not the same clientele as say meth at all

just my 2 cents

What the hell "synthetic alternatives" are thet talking about? Surely not amphetamines. Iv'e tried neither but despite the fact that there both stimulative they seem to be in a completely different league to me.

Cocaine has 'no future'

Organised crime expert Misha Glenny has predicted that cocaine will become obsolete in the future, arguing that cheaper to manufacture synthetic substitutes with superior effects will soon replace the natural narcotic. “Production is slowly shifting from developing countries like Afghanistan and Colombia and moving into centers like Holland and Canada,” the author of ‘McMafia: A Journey through the Global Criminal Underworld’ told New American

His projection comes not long after Colombian vice-president, Francisco Santo issued a thinly veiled call for cocaine to be legalised at a London drug conference aimed to reduce coke consumption in the UK, attended by appropriately named Labour Minister Vernon Coaker. “In the case of Colombia and this country the discussion of legalisation is something that does not have the political will or the possibility of becoming a reality in the near future, so in Colombia, whereas a lot of illegal groups fund [themselves] through this kind of operation we have no other option in terms of combating it,” he complained. “The debate is open but we wish it had a louder sense in terms of how we can reduce consumption and production,” he added.

The debate happened as government data revealed that cocaine related hospital admissions increased by four hundred percent in the last 8 years in the UK, with ‘740 cocaine-induced health emergencies in 2006/07, compared with 161 in 1998/99’ (Metro).

and all the speed in France comes from the Netherlands... by the time its been cut in poland, then the netherlands, then here, no wonder its between 10 and 30%purity... beurk :p :! :p

UK = 5-15% purity.
It can take 2 and a half grams to come up sometimes here.

Anyway back to the article, I suppose it could be likened to the pill/MDMA crystal switchover,
however myself and many other people I know still much prefer to do some good pills than MDMA,
there's something about the culture of it and a certain glamour that MDMA crystal/powder doesn't have.
I'd be very surprised if people didn't feel the same way about coke.

^I don't think it's the culture or glamor of pills, I think it's the MDA/meth that make 'ecstasy' pills awesome.

Sure crystal mdma is amazing, but it isn't as good as MDMA/MDA/ and a dab of speed.

As far as the article, cocaine will always be around. especially considering it has generations of fans and addicts. maybe once all the cocaine lovers and addicts die off then maybe the market will lose it's profit potential.

maybe in the US yes, but in the UK, pills usually either contain almost entirely MDxx, or mcPP/BZP and no MDMA.
I agree though, a bit of speed does go well. :)

I'm surprised that article was published--considering the huge, recent resurgence of cocaine use throughout Western Europe and the US.

People have been chewing coca leaves for thousands of years, same as people have been smoking cannabis for thousands of years. People will continue to shove charlie up their nostrils for a long time too come, cocaine use has become almost acceptable.
