Going to my doc today to swith meds just wondering if clonazepam produces ssedative/hypnotic effects.

Which would be the best benzo for this effect ?

Think i may try bekoming a heroin addikt instead idk ......

I have used clonazepam daily for 3 years. My normal daily dose is 3 mg. I have used oxazepam, alprazolam and diazepam before I switched to clonazepam.

I would say that clonazepam is a benzo that is "something between". It's more sedative than alprazolam, but less sedative than diazepam. The good thing about clonazepam is also that it's long acting and has a very long half life, meaning you don't need to take it often. 1-2 times a day is enough. I take 2 mg in the morning and 1 mg in the afternoon.

If you're looking for some really sedative/hypnotic benzo clonazepam may not be the best for you, it has those properties but there are benzos that are more sedative (e.g. diazepam). Then again every benzo is sedative/hypnotic if you take a very large dose. Clonazepam also has some properties that are much stronger than other benzos, for example it's a strong and very effective anticonvulsant and also works as an effective anti-epileptic medicine.

When it comes to reducing anxiety, preventing panic attacks etc. I have found only alprazolam to be equally effective.

Are you looking for a short acting or long acting benzo?

Yeah clonaz does product this sedative hypnotic effect, no prob bro ;)

Clonazepam has hypnotic fx but if you are looking for hypnotic fx in particular maybe try temazepam, midazolam, triazolam etc.. clonazepam is mainly used for its anxiolytic fx as opposed to hypnotic fx (although it does posess these fx as well). Don't try and become a heroin addict, if you are looking for a hypnotic, why not get a hypnotic? Although hypnotics aren't any better than H with regards to addiction...

Yeah, but I do have some nitrazepam and some clonazepam, and I prefer my clonazepam to make the job of sleep so much easier, man ;)

Yeah the distinction in medicine between 'sedative-hypnotics' and 'anxiolytics' is pretty arbitrary. Absolutely any benzo at virtually any dose will reduce anxiety and facilitate sleep to some degree. Shit, even Z-drugs like Stilnox (zolpidem) are killer at reducing anxiety.

However, in my opinion, clonazepam is really not ideal for sleep. The half life is just too long. It's massive overkill unless you have anxiety issues as well, because it will still be well and truly in your system for days after a single use.

1- are you already on benzos? if you aren't than i would advise to avoid that route, if you get dependent to them it is a huge pain in the ass if you ever need to stop.
2- Again, if not on any benzos- try sedating antihistamines for sleep, doxylamine is OTC and works great, promethazine would be good for Rx.. or you can go the antipsychotic route and get a small dose of seroquell or zyprexa.. just be aware of side effects.
3- DONT BECOME A DOPE ADDICT
4- I have experience with all the types of drugs i have mentioned in this post.
5- OR listen to the poster below me..

Mirtazapine is very effective for sleep too, so you may want to consider it too. It doesn't cause addiction and has virtually no dangerous interactions with any drug. I like the sleepiness it produces, it's a warm and soft, cozy grogginess that nicely puts you to sleep.

Seroquel, well, I was on it for 3 years to get sleep but it's a horrible, horrible drug. It makes you feel like someone's hit you with a brick in the face, and the first weeks you're a walking zombie. You really don't get any tolerance to it and it's not addictive either, so maybe 25-100 mg for sleep could work for you. For me it clogged my nose completely, I had to use nasal spray to be able to breath with my nose when going to sleep.

Of all the meds mentioned in this thread, mirtazapine would be the one that does the least harm to you and the safest too. And it's effective, very much so, for sleep. Withdrawal is nowhere near as bad as with traditional SSRI's. I'd say it's very easy to come off it.

ok i suffer with extreme anxiety to the point u cant even imagine, i been using 10mg diazepam for bout 3 months my tolerance has built up and now these 14 day scripts are running out to quick, basically thats my issue. Explained this to the doc he pescribed me 28 Nitrazepam 5mg, lets see how that goes

Thanks you guys for all your very informative responses they are always very helpful thats why i love bluelight, its pretty much my saving grace when it comes to this, luv you guys :)

Btw not looking to sleep looking to function like everyone else, when i first started taking diaz i was a different person, real confident talking to women talking to anyone who gets in my way, normally i avoid contact with anybody and everybody so theres a definite beneficial effect, i wont go into specifics but these make things so much easier to function.

glad you got something to help.

i can understand about the anxiety but everyone has that "you don't understand how bad it is" type of attitude when it comes to anxiety for some reason, doctors hear those words everyday lol.. i hope things get better for you!
Update us on your progress if you feel you want to.
I would be interested in seeing someone go from rock bottom to feeling better(or just plain bad to good lol), the positive energy is contagious and anyone can feed off it.. we're all in this shit called life together.

I'm assuming you have tried heroin or other opiates and it helps with your anxiety, that's why you made the statement "Think i may try bekoming a heroin addikt instead idk ......" Initially opiates helped me with my anxiety but after a while it goes away and when you don't have them your anxiety returns ten fold, at least for me it does. I buy a bundle and say I am only going to do two bags a day (very strong shit) and I ended up doing shot's like every 6 hours because at the end I get so depressed I need to "get right." It may work well for a few months maybe even a year if your new to opiates, thats what happened to me than I quit. It was fun for a few weeks, then quit again, picked up a few months ago and within two weeks I binged so much it wasn't fun but I didn't want to be sick. Basically, don't do heroin. If you refuse to remain abstinent from go the doctor or see a psychiatrist and get a script for an anti-depressant or a benzodiazepine.

The heroin staement was not to be taking srsly it was more made out of frustration, dont worry guys i realise its not a viable option!

If you suffer from anxiety, I would even more strongly recommend considering mirtazapine. Not only does it put you to sleep, but it's also an antidepressant which helps with depression, anxiety, panic disorders etc.

Mirtazapine gave me serious farting skills, but as long as my melee was ok I was engreannating (yeah, blshit word, I know). The thing is to score, fast and hard.

Then again, the farts, oh no sorry :/

Well that's definately what I would call an idiosyncronatic reaction :D

The only thing mirtazapine does to almost everyone is you get the munchies, and they are far worse than on the strongest weed I can imagine. There's the continuous craving for something sweet, and you really have to have a good self-restraint because your weight is going up fast otherwise.

Just stick to Clonazepam its good to treat stuff like anxiety, it took forever for my Dr. to let me try Xanax and Ativan and because of the short halflife it was horrible so they pout me back on Clonazepam. Was put on in late '07, all year '08-'10 and this year so like 3 years.

Nitrazepam kicks ass works goood for me i think, so far anyway, gonna try to continue to get some diaz for sleep aids, shouldnt be a prob doc seems pretty cool so yeah happy with todays outcome!!

I agree, if you want a good sedative hypnotic, just try (Zolpidem or as it's called in the USA Ambien) 8)

You got scripted nitrazepam for anxiety? I thought it was foremost a hypnotic. Either way I still have no idea what your actual question is. If you're having trouble sleeping, and if you suffer from anxiety, then I agree with Cyanoide that you should give mirtazepine a go. It is the best AD I can think of for sleep and for anxiety. And it won't just one day stop working like any benzo surely will.
