Clonazepam & alprazolam

My dr just prescribed alprazolam on top of the clonazepam. Is this normal?

The clonazepam is twice a day & the alprazolam is three times a day.

Am I gonna be able to function?

I never heard of two benzos bein prescribed at once...

yea ive had both prescribed at once in the past. 1mg clonazepam once every 8 hours and .5mg xanax as needed per 6 hours. you can function just avoid other drugs unless its speed

As long as you take it as prescribed, you shouldn't have issues. What exactly are you doses?

I just remember seeing you talk about taking a large dose of both in the social last night (If I recall correctly it was a dose equivalent to 10-12mg of clonazepam/alprazolam (the conversion ratio is 1:1, so you can just add the doses together to get your total equivalent dose)). More than likely your doctor has you Rx'ed the clonazepam for anxiety maintenance and the alprazolam for breakthrough anxiety/panic attacks.

It is standard practice to prescribe two benzos (one for maintenance; one for breakthrough anxiety), but its also too much for most people (myself included). About a year ago, I was prescribed both. I've since given up the clonazepam and my anxiety has gotten better.

It is very nice to have a long-acting and short-acting benzo around, just make sure you keep your tolerance in check. I would strongly recommend taking as little as possible (don't take it if you don't need it).

My clonazepam is .5 mgs twice a day. The alprazolam is 1 mg 3 times a day.

Yeah yesterday I went benzo happy. Tryin to escape reality for awhile bc my home life sucks, aka asshole bf.

I'm goin to try my hardest not to abuse them bc I have terrible panic & don't want them to end up not workin.

Honestly I don't feel like the clonazepam is doin crap but helpin me sleep. Alprazolam works like a charm tho.
