Clear Alcohol is better for u than Dark?

Hmm, im not sure, but i would guess yes. Vodka is distilled multiple times down to almost pure alcohol before being diluted down to the correct strength with water. Dark spirits are generally distilled only once, and as a result, are more likely to contain impurities.

Drink clear alcohol. Dark alcohol tends to contain a substance called cogeners. These types of alcohols are more likely to cause hangover symptoms. White wine, vodkas, light rum are examples of clear alcohols. Red wine, dark rum, sherry, brandy are high in cogeners. Beer is in between, mostly depending on how dark it is.

brown liquors get their color and flavor from professes that happen post-distillation. Brown liquors can be the product of multiple distilations.

moonshine and whisky are both the products of corn mash (generally)

I've read that at least in terms of beer (and wine I imagine), the darker the drink the more flavonoids present.

oh yeah, and red wine is beneficial to your health, where as white is not.

there was a guy who i would suggest/sell wine too.

he told me he was in the hospital for a heart condition, and the doc prescribed him a glass of red a day.
he said, " you know whats worse then hospital food? hospital wine!"

he had a buddy that would sneak him bottles of bordeaux though in the hospital.

heheh.

Dark liquor contains more congeners than clear liquor. Congeners are impurities that are generally bad for a person's health. They also provide a distinct flavor. Congeners are why I like whiskey over vodka, though the vodka has been more stripped of impurities. The ethanol will hurt your health way more than the congeners, but technically the congeners in dark liquor can contribute to a worse hangover.

As true as that all may be, i am fairly sure that most whiskies for example only go through one distillation, leaving the final product with more impurities left over from fermentation.

liquor feels much more damaging to my body and mind than wine does (even in equipotent amounts like 1 shot liquor vs. one glass of wine).

I'm a big Grey Goose fan.

I'll drink Kettle One if I'm on a budget at the bar though.

In my experience the top shelf backlit Vodkas are easier to recover from than the lower end stuff.

Some dark liquors that truly bring me down are Jack Daniels, and Jameson.

I end up doing shots of the cheap stuff because I tend to hang around gritty blue collar bars for fun.

Depends on where the whiskey is from. Scotch is distilled 2-3 times, Irish whiskey (mmmmmm) 3 times, and North American whiskeys (including Canadian Rye whiskey and American Bourbon among others) are generally only distilled once.

Congeners (which can include higher alcohols in trace quantities among other things) contribute to a hangover, but are not the only cause. Often dehydration plays a large part-- remedied by drinking a large glass of water with a tiny (~ a dozen fine crystals, probably less than 50 mg) of salt dissolved just before going to bed and/or during the night-- as well as the ethanol breakdown products themselves. Depending on the person, one factor or another may be the major contributor.

Pretzels or peanuts also do the job.

I've also been to places that give out free popcorn and/or salty potato chips.

:)

Oh, and Grey Goose is the shit. Best vodka that I've had. I do enjoy Jameson, but I never have enough to get sick because I know that I'll end up very sick.

Top shelf tequila is pretty good too, and fairly easy on the system.

i love the white / clear quality liqours. such as

grey goose, cabo wabo, tiki.

way less hangover and better drunk for me.

I suspect that a bit of this "less hangover in clear liquor" business is frequency brown water is consumed neat, vs how often vodka and tequila come with sugar and salt in mixed drinks.
