DONT microwave them! Id suggest putting them in brown paper bag or in newspaper to let them dry. Idk anything about rinsing them as iv never picked them personally.

it kinda also depends on where you picked them from. the ones i sometimes grow are pretty sterile and i dont really mind a few specks of grain on them.

if picked in the field, then yes, a little rinceing under cold water will do the trick. Do not use really boiling hot water or the microwave as that may destroy the good stuff.

First: Be 100% certain of what you have picked. There are lookalikes to interesting mushrooms that can make you very sick.

As for cleaning: be very gentle to them under a gentle stream of water and use your fingers to gently remove debris. You probably won't cause any problems if you bruise the mushrooms but they look much nicer unbruised!

And for drying: Put them in a shoe box lined with paper towel (make sure the shoe box has a couple holes in it, like for carrying the box itself) and put some silica gel packets in the shoe box. It'll take a day or so but it's effective and won't expose the mushrooms to heat, which is probably good.

thnx guys. yea i shouldve added tht i picked them from my backyard in texas. i definately wont microwave them. i plan on doing them possibly tonight or tommorow. if i do rinse em in water tht will make them soaked wont it. if i rinse em and i do plan on eating them tonight with pb&j will it be ok to eat them wet?

they are guarantied golden caps as i have seen many of them. they have a shiny metallic like golden cap. kinda like those green beetles but not nearly as metallic

i currently have them in a plastic tupperware container open to somewhat dry them. good or bad?

They're probably fine to dry in the tupperware container, but I've always had the most success with placing them in this one homemade drying apparatus I came up with back when I used to grow: first, I would position a table fan in a milk crate turned on its side in such a way that the fan is lying on its back side, blowing upward. Then I would take a colander and put it on top of the milk crate, with the specimens inside that, so that the air current is blowing up and drying them off more quickly that way.

I've found this most effective in the sense that I don't like to let my mushrooms sit around for long periods drying, as they can sometimes attract mold or other contaminating microorganisms that way.

Also, I recommend not rinsing them with water as they'll only absorb that water and thus take longer to dry. What I usually do is clean them off with an unused paintbrush, and am able to get most debris off that way.

Heat isn't that much of a concern. Most people report no loss of potency when tea is made with the shrooms. prolonged periods of heat exposure would make a difference.

I just dont like the idea of microwaving the shrooms. The one time i made tea i decided to reheat it in the microwave. Drank it then waited...nothing.

Microwaving anything with water in it will cook it as the microwave will make the water molecules vibrate at high speed which causes heat.

Take a box fan (the big square ones for windows) and balance it on something. Place a screen on top of it. Place your mushies on this screen, turn the box fan on low to medium. It will blow air up through the pile of mushies and dry them in a few days. To clean, wait until they are completely dry, then take a soft bristled toothbrush to remove the casing from the bases.

You can dry mushrooms in a microwave it does reduce potency but the extent it debatable, if you have 1000,s of lib caps it is the easiest way, but personally I eat them straight from the field, maggots and all.
