Claim that special fermentation of ergot can produce LSD

I don't think anyone has genetically engineered yeast or bacteria to make LSD; you'd need them to make diethylamine. And besides Claviceps spp. mostly makes all the ergopeptides, not plain lysergic acid (amide).

Maybe they have. I would imagine the reference is pretty well hidden for obvious reasons.

The intermediate is believed to be a thioester which is substituted with d alanine then which is oxidative cleaved to yield the isopropionaldehyde amide that cyclisizes to form ergometrine. My advice is use N-ethyl glycine maybe. Or diethyl amide in a basic buffer.
