Civilization series

I'm able to recite Leonard Nimoy's every narration.

I fucking love that he did the narration. It makes the game beyond epic.

I have spent more time playing Civilization 1, 2, 3, 4, and Colonization than I've done participating in any other activity, period. I've played those games more than I've spent time at my various places of employment over the years. I've played them for more hours than I've spent masturbating and fucking.

Civ2 and Civ4 are the highlights - Civ2 was so easy to make mods/scenarios for, and Civ4 has the best gameplay and game balance that the series was looking for all along.

Civ4 just makes so much fucking sense its absurd. When I read "Guns Germs and Steel" it was like I was playing a Civ4 game while reading the book.

Bonus food resources -> specialists -> more technology -> bronzeworking -> Iron -> GG Swordman rush biatches.

human history in a nutshell lol

The only thing I hate about Civilization 4 is fucking Montezuma of The Aztecs. He is a fucking warmongering dick of an AI. I refused his demand for a key city one game and he decided to declare war on me despite our relations being friendly.

Wave after wave of shitty Jaguar Warriors poured into the outlines of my Germanic Empire, pillaging my towns, capturing my workers, and finally capturing the strategic port city of Adia that I had left undefended, as forces were needed to the north of The Reichstag Citadel due to increased tensions with Spain. After my successful counter attack on his invading forces with the elite Helicopter Gunships of my Luftwaffe and recapturing Adia with my Praetorian Guard, I landed a force of my Mechanized Dragoons on his shores and had three Panzer divisions cross the isthmus that connected our continents. I then began my campaign of genocide on his shitty medieval era backwards civilization. My forces did not stop until I razed every fucking city on the continent, which I then expanded on to, to set up cities with manufacturing plants for the coming war with that cunt Isabella of Spain to the north.

Screenshot of my Civ 4 Diety win. I was so proud. Sorry the image is so small. [IMG=http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/3434/civ4dietywintz2.th.jpg]

And that concludes today's history lesson. Tomorrow we'll study the Napoleonic era and how naval battles, while epic on film, are generally a waste of resources.

Seriously, the only investment I make in ships if for transports if I can't get to someone by land, and enough protection to keep them from getting sunk en-route.

+1 on f'n Aztecs ruining the game. They don't play fair. ;)

A strong Navy has always been a key element in my Military. Aircraft Carriers are excellent for getting bombers and fighters into areas of enemy territory that would be otherwise off limits to aircraft due to range. I like to keep a fleet of Battleships supported with Destroyers and Submarines in order to blockade enemy port cities. By blockading the port cities in one game I was able to weaken a otherwise stronger opponent by denying Julius Caesar of Rome the Aluminum and Oil he was importing from the French. He threw all the armored divisions he had at me which I was able to weaken with repeated bombardment from my Luftwaffe off shore and my mighty Kriegsmarine before they got to the front I set up with fortifications and the like where I had a large amount of infantry dug in. When the Romans where exhausted and could only afford inferior military units I had a bunch of Paratroopers land behind enemy lines and capture the city of Antioch which lay in the center of the Roman Empire. Immediately I airlifted my Panzers from there city garrisons to the recently captured city and then laid siege with little resistance to the rest of the Roman Empire.

I wouldn't have been able to do that without my Navy.

play on a harder difficulty noob.

Wahey I've got the complete box set now

Played a 4 hour, 10 player game last night with 4 of us hot seating.. still in the BC era hahaa

Civ 4 is one of the best games to lan with friends.
Although sometimes they can be quite boring, the bragging rights make it all worth it.
lol.

I think the multiplayer takes far too long if you are playing with randoms but its a ton of fun with teamspeak or ventrillo and you play as a team versus a high level computer team.

Ah I was playing single player on marathon and got to 120AD and all my units became invisible.. computer couldn't render them :(

Civilization came out for 360. Civ on a console. Hmmm... Supposedly it takes out a lot of the micro-managing.
I'm in two minds about this. On one hand, it would give me a less addictive and soul-destroying outlet for my civ addiction. And yet, would I still like it without all the minute tweaking that one gets to do on the PC?

I liked the demo and how you could combine units into squads and platoons.. also the road thing was a lot simpler and clearer

But I am still getting used to this game

you assholes are making me seriously consider buying Civ4 + the xpac for like the 3rd time. (I usually resort to throwing it away and uninstalling when I feel I'm playing too much)

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

any of you guys ever play Rhye's and Fall of Civilization mod? or use Blue Marble v3.0 ??

Both of these mods are amazing. Blue Marble vastly improves the graphics of the game while Rhye's and Fall just gives you the most amazing fun and relatively historically accurate mod to play through almost every major civ in early and modern history. I think I played Rhye's and Fall more than the regular game.

Does anyone else remember the Non-Syd Mier approved Civilization: Call To Power? It was like they put in every ridiculous fanboy idea. "Hey, what if you could build cities in space!" "What you could make televangelists that could convert other cities!"
