Anyone play them?

Was going to buy the toned down console version - Civ Revolutions - but then my mate said he'll just lend me the whole series on PC.

Can you play this online?

If so, when I get it, anyone fancy playing a full on 4 hour game lol?

Absolutely love Civ. Civ 2 was the high point for me, especially with all the add ons.
Alpha Centauri is pretty awesome too.
Colonization was my favourite similar game.

I'd be up for a game. Which one are you suggesting and I'll dig it out.

It's a pretty old game so you should be fine.
Make sure you patch up to the latest version too.
I'll dig it out. Will be about tonight for a game, but I suggest you at least get up to speed on a single player game first.

I dread to think how many hours I have spent on Civ4. It always seems like time well spent though, because they're such intricate & challenging games. Educational too.

They've done a good job streamlining it for the consoles but the PC titles are definitely a more rewarding experience.

They're not particularly spec-hungry games, so you'd be surprised. My PC is about 4 years old now & it can run Civ4 pretty much maxed out.

Turn based strategy is my video game drug of choice. Civ was my crack. I can't play it anymore. I get way too addicted.

Civ 2 was epic, in every sense of the word. Definitely one for the history books (no pun intended) that pushed me well down the path of gaming addictions.

Alpha Centauri was a fucking mess, at least for me. I gave up on it pretty quick, and saw plenty of 'returned' packages for sale shortly after launch.

Civ 3 was good. Progress, but not spectacular.

Civ 4 is the only game I put on every PC and laptop I get, and I continue to play it. Other games come and go, but Civ 4 is with me forever (or until there is a Civ 5 ;) ).

eDDe9 - You'll want a lot of practice on Civ4 before you take on an experienced player. There's a lot more nuance in the latest installment and you can easily get left behind if you don't max out your capabilities early on.

There's one strategy that always works - chop, chop, and chop some more!

Yeah, chop chop wins, even on Diety for Civ 4. I tihkn I stayed up 2 nights in a row from the time I got that game to the time I completed it with a deity victory. I was seeing little axemen and nuclear blast craters over tiny cites out of the corners of my eyes and even superimposed over things I looked at the rest of the day after I finished. Haven't played it since then.
SW
ps, Civ 2 was the best civ game.

Civilization IV is great. I got all the expansion packs and that game is just plain addicting. I start playing lets say around 10pm and then I say to myself Its always " just one more turn" and before I know it the sun is coming up.

My choice Civilization is Germany. I really enjoy the Panzer unit during the Industrial Era and the Manufacturing Facility especially.

I got hooked on Civ 2 and Alpha Centauri. I thought Alpha Centauri was cool, except for a number of bugs that would manifest around 3/4 through the game. I played best as eco-Nazi Gaians.

Civ4 = absolute pure quality crack

I wish everyone would play this, but then again I don't...

I'm able to recite Leonard Nimoy's every narration.
