CIGARS.. What's the point?

I definately enjoy a good cigar, and second the cigar buzz experience from absorbed nicotine. Since quality can vary greatly as with all things you usually get what you pay for, although just as some will enjoy white zinfandel over Bordeaux, there will be those who prefer Swisher over Romeo Y Julieta and that's ok. Best bang for the buck I like Rocky Patel.

A good quality cigar is a "smoke". That is to say a sublime experience that titilates all senses and achieves a relaxing sense of enjoyment that I feel you get nowhere else. It can enhannce the ordinary and adds celebration to those special occasions similar to what a good quality Champagne (or sparkling wine) can do.

so how does a swisher sweet compare to a more expensive cigar (srs)

Theres really no comparison... All of the cheaper cigarillos and such taste awful (at least every one that I've tried.)

The $7-$12 range is where you start getting into some really excellent cigars (ratings in the 80s and 90s.)

In the US, I'd recommend the monecristo especial no. 3 white, (or just the plain no. 3) or perhaps the Davidoff 5000. Both mild coronas that smoke well.

I really wish I was back in the UK when it comes to cigars... I didn't start appreciating them until I was back in the US and good cubans are so hard to come by here.

could a real classy, expensive cigar be used for my blunts?

i always wondered if you can gut a $5 cigar like a swisher and twist it up with some green
sounds like a waste of an extra $4 but hey it could be used for special occasions right? =P

thanks i will keep it in mind. i noticed they have a soda out too lol

I don't recommend the soda.

oh, and by the way, the popsicles, I'm not talking about the kind that comes in the plastic where you just clip the top and push it up the plastic as you eat it, I'm talking about on a wooden stick popsicle, by jolly rancher. they're seriously fucking amazing, and that reminds me I need to go get more. nothing is better than doing a couple of fat shots of morphine, having a popsicle, and then a cigarette. well, doing a couple of fat shots of morphine, having a starbucks mocha frappaccino, and a cig is good also.

The reason people like cigars is because of the type of nicotine delivery system behind them.

Which is, that because most cigars are not inhaled and the smoker tends to chew on the end

of it that you get a large dose of nicotine over a longer period which produces mental

depressant effects on the user. Whilst if you where to take quick short inhaled puffs off a

cigar you would get a more stimulating effect which most cigar smoker's don't want.

In a sense it's the rate and levels of nicotine in the blood over X amount of time.

You're supposed to inhale contrary to popular belief, just gently though and puffing it out around your mouth then blow out quick because yes its harsh smoke

But even if you did/do your still taking slower puffs which keeps your levels lower.

Lot of questions here, some quick replies.

OP- People appreciate fine cigars for the same reasons people appreciate fine wines. Picking out various flavors in the tobacco and observing how they change throughout the experience, appreciating the physical craftsmanship of the cigar, slowing down for a period of time to relax, the focus on the experience is like a kind of meditation in a way, it's also good time for private reflection or pleasant socialization with your fellow smokers.

Tickle My Pickle - Fuck no there is no comparison between that cardboard they sell at gas stations and actual quality cigars.

Demize - I wouldn't recommend wasting a decent cigar to make a blunt, would you chug down or make mixed drinks out of a $50 bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape? Maybe try it with a $5 cheapo if you really want to (there are actually a few cigars in this price range that can stand up to most $11 ones).

Dokomo - I'm not a big fan of montecristos, I'm more of a medium/full body kind of guy. Some sticks I'm fond of would include La Gloria Cubana Series R, Bauza, anything by Padron, La Aurora makes some good ones, and I'm also rather fond of Rocky Patel but not too hot on CAO.

Can't speak as to the qualities of Cubans, but I think they get over rated by some who only smoke them, that's like only drinking French wine. Is some of the best wine in the world produced there? Yes, but plenty of other countries produce stuff just as good (or leagues better depending on the grape variety or flavor/aroma/texture profile you prefer). Same with cigars (though if you made me choose one country as my favorite I'd go with Nicaragua, they have a lot of really bold cigars with a spicy zing to them).

mdmaftw! - Hell no you're not supposed to inhale them. I dare you to try that with a full-bodied double corona or churchill, I gaurantee you will get sick and more than likely vomit. Unless perhaps you have an ungodly huge nicotine habit and smoke all day every day.

i picture you sitting by a nice fireplace, with a fancy robe, glass of wine, and puffin on a cigar while you typed that. you seem to know a lot about this stuff. are you rich?

Hahaha, funny image, I'd like to be doing that while posting someday. I'm horribly horribly poor, I just spend all my money frivolously. I try to buy that sort of thing cheaply online (you can get $10-12 cigars for $3 a piece), though it's been a few months since I've had any, been unemployed so all money I'm not using to pay off debt has gone towards better drugs. Still a few months away from meeting our appallingly high drinking age, I just read a lil' about wine here and there to get a head start on knowledge. It's good to have legal hobbies, they help me avoid opiate/benzo addiction and they give a great excuse for me being broke all the time.

^^
a good cigarette will give u a good quick buzz.

marlboro lights used to be my favorite, altho i don't really smoke anymore.

Inhaling cigar smoke -- I can only stand to inhale a small amount -- brings an incredible, woozy head rush, just like the first time smoking a cigarette. I smoke about 10 per year and it's a pleasant, occasional indulgence.

Nicotine is highly permerable through the mouth, so it doesn't need to be inhaled. It can though. My cousin hates cigarettes because it's killing his mom. He does love nicotine though, so has a cigar once in a blue moon. He says it hits him hard since he doesn't smoke.

I read somewhere cigars have around 120 mg of nicotine in them. Even though a lot of it gets destroyed from heat, theres still more than enough to get a non-smoker a nice buzz without inhalation.
