Here's a good link to gynecomastia from the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine. It seems to be more prevalent than I first assumed, stating that it's present in one third to one half of healthy men? There obviously has to be varying degrees of affliction since man-bras aren't exactly on the store shelves. It also gives a list of drugs that may set it off.

So it could be true that although marijuana may set off gynecomastia, the growth would be too small to cause detection or concern. This is just conjecture on my part though.
