Chess websites...where to play?

I have been playing on Playchess.com and getting my ass handed to me. I destroy all my friends with ease in real life, and consider myself a pretty accomplised player.

Does anyone have any insight as to why I am getting rocked on playchess, or do I just suck? Also, playchess has a weird rating system. I dont understand theirs.

Any suggestions on where to begin? I'm even willing to try beginner venues. By venues I mean on the intranets.

Also any insight as to why I keep getting beat on playchess would be nice.

Any Chess site that's safe?

Does anyone know of a chess site where I don't have to download a game bar that has a computer to play against. I downloaded one and Mc Afee quaranteed something right away. I'd appeciate if anyone knows of a trouble free site.
