Chemicals changing colour upon vaporisation.

For a laugh, I sometimes put a bit of chemical on some glass and heat it until it vaporises, not to smoke, just to observe the effect. Tried it with some ketamine and it turned maroon/blood red and ran. tried it with some diazepam powder and it turned a very vibrant green and ran forming a solid green crystal, pretty much identical to a chunk of emerald. Pretty cool really.

Is this normal or are these impurities being left? <snip: sorry we don't do speculation about what cuts or impurities might be in your drugs>

It depends on the chemical, sometimes they degrade into other things with a different colour, sometimes it alters crystal structure, etc.

Does sound quite interesting though. Next time I have some ketamine i'm gonna try this =D

It's normal, what you're doing is turning the compounds into different kinds of tar.

There used to be an old way of guessingat the purity of cocaine by seeing the kind of residue it left on foil. It's not very accurate but it can let you know if there's something obviously not coke in there.

Did you crush a pill? or did you get it as powder? because Phenazepam burns red purple. looks like fireworks

Forgot about this, thanks for the answers. No it was sold as pure diazepam powder, it was as strong as expected.

I wasn't asking about what/if the drugs are cut with, I was just wondering how the chemical transformation happens, or if there were any common chemicals that produce certain colours when burnt. Purely from a chemistry perspective! Got answered anyway, thanks :)

You asked something like if they are cut then what cut could it be. We could only take wild guesses at that. It would be far too difficult to determine particular cuts that when combined with a specific drug would turn a specific colour. That's why I edited out that part of your post :)
