Cheap Personal Alcohol Breath Tester

Cheers Pleo, excellent 1st trial report. After reading the articles regarding inaccuracy of cheaper units, I was a bit worried I may have been seen as promoting a dodgy product without first testing it. So thanks Pleo, I owe you one.

I wonder, if you approached your friendly police station Sargent and inquired about obtaining one of their testers to compare the reliability etc., would he possibly oblige? The trick may be to simultaneously enquire about making a small donation to the police youth club ;)

Provided you don't drive to the police station if you're gonna test the >0.05%alc/vol limit ;)

My plan eventually is to go and use one of those big coin operated breath testers they have in pubs - from what I've read those things are worth thousands of dollars and are based on the same technology as the police RBT units. My question is though, does anyone know of any places in Melbourne that has one, that isn't a complete yobbo hangout (cos unfortunatly that's where these things tend to be - they often go hand in hand with binge drinking venues).

My friend has a little hand held device that gives out a percentage reading on a lcd screen.

He said it cost him about $60 from one of those glossy catalogues with thousands of little bits of useless crap.

But I get the feeling he uses it more as a dick measuring device, seeing as he's on his Ps ;)
