Cheap dorm room snacks?

Trail mix is (almost) the perfect dorm room snack - no preparation required, no need for dishes or utensils, no mess to clean up afterward, can eat it straight out of the bag. However, it's $5 / bag, and a serving for me is at least half a bag.

Anyone have any other ideas? I'm looking for convenience, and maximum calories / $$.

What is Trial mix? Check the ingredients and make your own? Homemade pizza / pasta is very cheap (and high calorie) but needs some time to prepare? Meal replacement drinks are probably the best $/Calorie (health wise) but ...

What is more important to you - save a few bucks regardless of your health? Buy a freezer and a microwave then cook meals in bulk and freeze portions !

A big bag of rice or pasta often works out cheaper (per portion) than a smaller size - couple that with a family size can of vegs and you can quickly make several high calorie / low cost meals. What food do you enjoy? Pizza - buy floor and (instant) yeast, that added with whatever you have in your fridge= cheaper and quicker than a take away. Do you enjoy Indian food - buy some of the big jars of vegs, tomatoes - add some of the spices you enjoy and freeze them per portion.

Dried fruit, fresh fruit, water (I would just use a Brita pitcher filter), tea (I used an electric tea kettle), fresh vegetables you can eat raw like carrots or celery, cheese on fresh fruit, and hummus on whole grain bread all work well for snacks when you live in a dorm.

peanut butter crackers are pretty banging and the chewy granola bars are pretty clutch too.

easy mac, hot pockets, popcorn

stoner food really

almonds and other nuts.

crackers

popcorn

bottled water x a million

soft pretzels are money too. Idk where you live but if you can get the Super Pretzel brand they are pretty good

I vote pistachios for munching food. Not cheap exactly, but healthy and leaves me full for a very long time from not too large a serving.

As for meals go for stuff high in protein. Despite the temptation try to avoid highly processed foods, high sodium. :!

And no, I don't practice what I'm preaching often enough.

I live off canned food. Well almost. Pork n beans tuna soup. Cans I can get for under a doller. Sandwich bread w cheese deli meat and pbnj is also cheap.

The thing with popcorn is that when you make it everyone on the floor knows it since it reeks pretty strongly.

I always ate Goldfish and Pita chips.

well thats expensive :p
just drink tap water

cheap but lots of calories hmm. (which im assuming you are meaning something that fills you up)

rice and beans
microwaveable bean or chicken burritos
chips and guacamole (make your own: buy avocados for $1 each when they're on sale, slice in half and season with salt and pepper, and if you have lemon and garlic that's good too)
dank nachos: chips, shredded cheese, salsa, sour cream, avocado, beans, frozen corn, whatever... microwave to melt the cheese
bananas and peanut butter
bagels and cream cheese
eggs and cheese! you can microwave eggs! just crack a couple eggs into a bowl, stir it up, season, cover it with a plate, and microwave for about 10-30 seconds til it's cooked through. eggs and toast is super filling and healthy.

Cheap things that are healthy and that I personally eat:

canned meats - try to find larger cans that you can use multiple times. Large cans of chicken / ham / turkey are generally a lot cheaper than single cans and can be stored for a day in a sealed container. Also, get some wild fish in tins.

canned vegetables / fruits - self explanatory. Vegetables are awesome for you.

Nuts and seeds - don't just get peanuts, those are boring and tasteless compared to pistachios, almonds, cashews, walnuts, etc. Sunflower seeds keep you occupied. Get the bigger containers when you can. Yeah, they're like $10-15, but they last for weeks. WEEKS.

Eggs, eggs, eggs! If you have ANY access to a fridge, get some damn eggs, for realz.

Dried fruits - snacking food. Really cheap!

Most of this stuff is like $1 a can, usually less. Spice with some chili, onion or garlic powder and some pepper and you've got yourself a meal.

Oats! They are pretty easy to prepare - you just need a microwave. You can put anything you want in it to make it interesting! I love chocolate, so I add cocoa and sweetener - YUM! You could also do brown sugar. Tons of different ways.

Fresh veggies and fruits.

Nuts are great too. They have lots of calories but are expensive. Sunflower seeds are cheaper. I like almonds the best. I also like to put them in salads.

Beans are good too! But you do need to cook them.

Gardetto's and Flaming Hot Cheetos were my snacks of choice. My dorm had a convenience store on the first level though, so I had access to plenty of snacking options.

Just go to the budget supermarkets like Aldi, Netto, Lidl and places like that. Even Home Bargains. You can pick up all sorts of obscure foods and stuff in the budget supermarkets.

Also, cook foods that can be cooked in bulk and then re-frozen like Chilli, curry, bolognaise. Make enough for about 8 people and buy those packs of silver cartons from the shop freeze loads of 1 person portions. Then when you are hungry just cook defrost and cook in cook in microwave and you only need to make the pasta or rice from new. You can even just use minute rice. Simple.

spices and cheese on bread under the broiler
Frozen grapes
Cocoa, icing sugar, peanutbutter on toast..tastes like reeses haha
noodles..can add anything to them, egg is good..green onions chicken breast whatever..cheap n filling
Pistachios and other nuts

little slices of cheese with banana pepper on them
strawberrys spinach leaves almonds and rasberyy vinegeratte makes a good salad
