Charlottesville, Virginia

I'm sure the black kid said something offensive, this guy feared for his life, and it was in no way related to the rally.

Bonus points if the black kid was fourteen and ninety pounds armed with skittles, and Fox points out he was a thug with a record.

Remember that guy on Facebook a couple of weeks ago who said he got stabbed by some stranger because he had a “neo-Nazi” haircut? You’re never going to believe this, but the story was total bullshit. He accidentally stabbed himself. And blamed it on a non-existent black guy.

Joshua Witt, a 26-year-old from Colorado, posted some photos to Facebook on August 16th, claiming that he had been stabbed for his “neo-Nazi haircut.” Cutting your hair extremely short on the sides and leaving some length on top has become known as the cool cut for kids on the alt-right.

[...]

Witt’s bloody Facebook post quickly went viral and everyone from Inside Edition to Fox News to the Alex Jones Show was outraged over this over-the-top story. But, as we mentioned, it’s bullshit.

Witt’s story was first debunked by Buzzfeed who contacted the police in Sheridan, Colorado for the full story. Gizmodo reached out to the Sheridan Police Department as well, who confirmed that Witt actually stabbed himself. And on top of that, he originally told police that his attacker was a “black male” in his mid-20s.

Odd to be in a world where Buzzfeed has better fact checkers than the others. This is a website that currently has a headline about the 16 drunk foods every Australian has had at least once.

Informative post scrof. Though you got the death metal bit wrong, you're talking about black metal which was largely born I'm Norway. Of which a small subset has neo Nazi ideology, the rest is about hating Christians and everything ;) and/or nature, hell there is a sub genre courtesy of the US which is far left/anarchist in theme. Death metal is from Florida.

Black metal is one of my favourite genres of music, my favorite band is the infamous Burzum. Yep, he's a renowned Hitler lover, besides being a murderer and arsonist. Scumbag, great musician though. I'm sure antifa would bash me and make me stab myself for that though.

Forgive my metal nerdiness. :D

This I need to know, link? I'm betting something Australian like kebab or McDonald's tops the list.

According to Wikipedia, which I cite because I'm not going to the source, the website Stormfront was started by two prominent white supremacists. The first was a Grand Wizard in the Ku Klux Klan AND a member of the American Nazi Party (which still means Neonazi), the oddly named Don Black and Chloê Hardin, who is the ex-wife of the KKK Grand Wizard David Duke. Stormfront's origin fits well with their current product, one of the popular sources of "alternative news".

swilow and Scrofula, great definitions of the current white supremacist scene. It's very fluid.

Another classification is the alt-right, for which you need a more formal membership and probably a tattoo somewhere. The alt-lite refers to the even less well-defined white nationalists who are not formally organized and consist of what are called white radicalized terrorists.

These last are created via the internet in the same way Islamist radical terrorists are converted digitally. While they lack certain elements that formal organizations with physical proximity or membership selection have, they are deliberately cultivated and are a very formidable arm of the current white supremacist movement.

As Scrofula mentioned, SLPC is a great place to read about these groups and their origins.

For example, the KKK, which formed in the 1860s, had four million members in what is considered its 2nd evolution, which peaked in the mid-1920s. That's also when they started burning crosses, an early practice dating back to a French heretical noted in the 1100s.

Burning crosses was a later practice in Scotland. The Scots burned the cross to signal a rally to battle or to warn of an enemy invasion.

The Klan adopted the practice of burning crosses as a way to intimidate.

The history of the KKK is long and storied. I had to stop writing a summary because I was rather sick. But I do recommend looking at SPLC for background if you aren't familiar with any of the white supremacist groups.

you're talking about black metal

I am terribly sorry. I've even watched some Metalocalypse. Please don't send your bats after me.
I think it is totally forgivable to be into music by a Hitler-lover, as long as you pirate all his stuff.

=====

And the thing about Buzzfeed is they debunked it with a simple act: simply calling the police station.

For those confused about reporting and News™, there's your answer.

He is racist, I'm not. I pay for his music so he keeps making it. You don't need to like an artist to like their art. I like Wagnerian music no less for his being a rabid antisemite.

Antifascist groups have actively shut down and beaten fans of black metal under the assumption they must be Nazis. Quite thought police style stuff there, quite fascist. I certainly never assume a dude wearing an Amebix shirt hasn't just spilt his pork sausages on it.

I only wear the Burzum shirt with the burnt church on it though. ;)

^Oop there they go! [Edit: I mean Fresco's Post, yes it's 5am here and it takes half an hour to write this; and I don't want to know what "splitting pork sausages" means in Australia.] Some "leftists" did some violence, everything we've said now changes, and nazis are cool.

Now, from the Daily Californian, UC Berkeley's campus newspaper:

Sunday’s rally in Downtown Berkeley featured clashes between “alt-right” ralliers and counterprotesters, but some activists and residents still consider it to have been a largely “peaceful” and “successful” event.

The “No to Marxism in America” protest was set to take place in Berkeley on Sunday, but it was canceled last week by organizer Amber Cummings. Despite its cancellation, some ralliers still attended, inciting a response from a horde of counterprotesters. [. . . ]

Mayor Jesse Arreguín said he was “really proud of Berkeley.” According to Arreguín, a great deal of preparation from local police and fire departments went into preventing violence, including the physical separation of large groups and the implementation of rules to prohibit the use of weapons and masks. [. . .'

According to Arreguín, the rallies featured “families, children (and) people of all backgrounds that came out to stand against hate.”

Felarca added that she thought the “alt-right” and “fascist” protesters from Saturday’s rallies in San Francisco came to Berkeley on Sunday as a “last-ditch effort” when their planned events dwindled into a press conference.

I'm going to side with the one without a sensational headline and has names to go with quotes. The Washington Post is a good paper, except for some on the editorial staff. But there WERE some fights and dudes in masks. Not nearly as bad as a Raiders game.

(Anytime you see "Berkeley" and "protest" together, you need to be skeptical.)

But really, I bet an innocent right-winger got hurt by a leftist. The leftist thug might have confused the Trump supporter with being a white nationalist supremacist nazi neo klan person. Maybe the guy kept defending the nazis, and the leftist thug was understandably confused. Just one of many reasons I keep mentioning it.

^^ I don't know about sausages either, but apparently drunk Australians eat a lot of McDonalds and call it something else. Macca's, if the article is genuine Aussie.
Otherwise mostly similar to us when drunk and hungry. ;)

Berkeley = cause = protestors on demand

Hey guise, what's this thread about?

Wow, I must have once been a drunk Aussie ;)

Quick topic summary:
1) Someone with a haircut claimed a black person stabbed him. But he stabbed himself and Buzzfeed uncovered, from Escher's Waterfall.
2) swilow explains many various subgenres of metal music..
He also requests link from Buzzfeed that names top drunk foods for Australians, while naming some effortlessly.
3) Guy talk ensues. Sports might have been involved, as I tuned out. I'm not even sure the link is seen. Something about an Amoeba? shirt and split pork sausages that requires translation into American English is stated by swilow. Translation or perhaps just say "you don't want to know".
4) Leftists protest something in Berkeley, possibly with faces covered to avoid recognition or tear gas or both. Scrofula and I are unimpressed as anyone from the "right" is visiting Berkeley. Lefttists means residents in Hippy English and protesting is a local Berkeley pastime since the 1960s.
5) Blue _Phlame inquiries about topic.
6) Escher's Waterfall posts Aussie drunk food link and swilow acknowledges possibly having eaten some of these things.
7) Macca"s, really? How? Why Macca"s? What about the "D"?
8 )I think the thread title is self-explanatory. ;)

Try and wrap your head around "arvo" for afternoon.

Australians love our abbreviations, to the extent that we make the rest of world call us Aussies. Though Americans usually pronounce even that incorrectly :D

Hey guise, what's this thread about?

It started off talking about a rally that people called White Nationalists organised quite legally and apparently an unarmed outnumbered anti White National group then blocking said rally. Given the nature of the point of the rally, the possibility of anger and violence erupting would be fairly high and also the arrival of an anti fascist group was known to happen . It always does, there's nothing wrong with it and if the local authorities had any brains they would have made sure things were peaceful .

The White Nationals may have intended on being all sweet and peaceful and carrying loaded guns and shooting live rounds and surrounding a church with our Tika flares chanting obscenities was obviously just an exuberant attempt to protect themselves from a plague of demon possessed mosquitos that are only killed by silver bullets and citronella filled torches.

In all seriousness though, this clash and resulting chaos and death should never have happened. Demonstrations like this should have been linked by rows of heavily armed and armoured riot police and the opposing sides forced apart, no vehicles allowed in the area that was planned, no innocent bystanders allowed anywhere near the rally and absolutely NO GUNS. Why need when it's a supposed peaceful legal freedom of speech?

It's laughable it got that bad and yes neither side had any justification for violence. The hypocrisy makes any argument null and void.

Hypocrisy. Sort of like whinging about off topic posts ad nauseum one minute and then crapping on about drunk Aussies and bloody Macca's in this thread the next. Unless hanger was the cause of this whole thing? 8) Get a quarter pounder and fries and calm down.

It's a pity I can't for the life of me get this epic news story about this massive rally that went incredibly peacefully and its impact would have been so much more beneficial than this sad excuse of a political demonstration. I'm stunned that it hasn't been a topic here. But then again mainstream media haven't made a single mention of it so how would anyone know about it? Not enough drama and idiocy to get ratings.

Thousands of Suni Muslims of all ages and male and female rallying against Isis. In the middle east too. Similar rallies across Europe. All peaceful too.

Makes this shitshow look so sad and pointless.

Please remember, Zephyr, there are folks who search out threads like this one specifically to change the conversation and make defending the racists acceptable. It attracts alt-right and trolls, who would squat on here and turn it into just another subreddit or chan with "nigger" and "Trump" ever other line.

One of the ways is suggesting "sides' in a "debate", cracks open a door so they come in all carefully. So I'm gonna arglebargle all earnest-like whenever I see it, till they get bored and annoyed with it and leave.

Thats very true. Also not isolated to CEP or the internet unfortunately.

There are a lot of public figures who are using the current state of the world to suit their own agenda.

Pretty sad innit.

You're right but I think we have some good, relatively clear rules of conduct here and we aren't hesitating to enforce them. This particular sub forum is NEVER going to accept the sort of shit that is proliferating in other armpits of the internet.

For me, I think its nice to talk a bit of silly bollocks, that does not mean I don't see the topic as serious. I will stop derailing though.

In Australia, we would say "argy bargy" by the way.

Okay, that's it :D
