Im gonna keep this brief cause im using my cell.

I have now been on chantix 5 days for smoking cessation. It certaintly cuts the earge to smoke, but I have had some undesirable side effects.

Firstly, it has really exacerbated my depression, and im even still smoking. I read that besides blocking the effects of nicotine, it also has an effect on dopamine. I dont know if it causes dopamine to be released, but if it does i would think it would have some antidepressant effects, possibly like wellbutrin/zyban?

Secondly, i have noticed that chantix has totally elimimated the effects of adderall. I have been taking adderall for a year now, and right after a day of chantix, i could not feel a damn thing from the ad.

I know chantix is a rather new drug, so i dont know if theres much info on it. Regardless, if someone has any answers that would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I didn't take chantix long enough or often enough to have effects like this but i do remember reading on the side effects about having strange or unusual dreams and the first night i took it i only took half a pill like it said to and i had lucid dreams all night and remember every bit of it, i still take them once and a while and have really interesting dreams, i was wondering what it would be like to take like 2 or 3 pills and go into a k hole a few hours later after they kick in.... do you think they would have any effect on eachother?

sorry i forgot to answer your original question, chantix may be making you depressed because it is made to block certain receptors that make you feel good or relaxed when you smoke so its very possible that this is what is happening, i would keep taking them as instructed and quit smoking because better to be depressed for a little while than to die of cancer in 5 years... :/

Chantix

Chantix is one of those FDA approved drugs which can be used to get over smoking habit. It works on body by giving you the same feel good effect like smoking and hence reduces the craving for nicotine. You can have all the information on chantix here http://www.chantixhome.com/ This medicine should only be used in accordance with the instructions of a physician as there are various side effects which may vary from person to person and it includes change of taste, sleeplessness and many more.

People really underestimate the MAOI effect of the harmala alkaloids in cigarettes. A lot of the stop smoking programs just focus on the nicotine part, but I think if they also included the MAOI aspect in the picture there would be a lot more success.

Adderall acts as an MAOI! Amphetamines have a degree of MAOI action, but i'm not sure how strong. The cigarettes and the amphetamines I think really play off of eachother.

Right now I'm waiting for someone to bring me back a pack of cigarettes, as having just dosed on AMP myself I know that a cigarette will really bring on the speed. I guess it's something i've never noticed until now.

It's very weak, to the point of being negligible.

α4β2 nicotinic receptor partial agonists are supposed to negate the reward imposed from smoking a cigarette by inhibiting the dopamine flux that would normally occur; maybe it works somehow similar with amphetamine, but it sounds like the situation is complex. The drug has been responsible for a lot of negative self-destructive psychiatric side effects.

I was considering being prescribed chantix. The doctors I talked to about it all warned me of behavioral effects that have to be monitored. They can get quite serious I guess.

This article http://www.zug.com/scrawl/chantix/index03.html really made me look closer at trying to get on chantix.

It's a pretty well written (and very funny) story about this guy who gets on chantix and has to quit because of the CRAZY behavioral effects it caused. Take a look at it, it's a good read.

Save your money and get tabex it's cheaper (around $20 and it's where they got the idea for chantix (google it). I had no side effects besides normal nicotine withdraw, mood enhancement, cigs tasting like ass, and it made everything i ate taste weird too.

Chantix is a few hundred, and doesn't work for shit (for me) but what did work is the patches, very good. 40$ a box wit the coupon, forgot the MG though it was a while back, if your interested in that get a few coupons to walgreens they sell them 5-10$ cheaper there then anywhere else. For everything, I found cvs to be the most expensive.

I was on chantix about 6 months ago and it worked great..by the 7th day I had absolutley NO desire to smoke and if i did take a drag it would taste horrible. - didn't notice any depression or anything but I remember it made my stomach hurt. I took it for about 10 days and then stopped. I quit smoking for 3 or 4 months and then picked up again :(...o well. - still got a script left though so if I ever try to quit again they are there :)

as a partial agonist i believe it is inhibiting excessive dopamine release hence why the adderall quit working

it works very well for a few, but appears most user experience sides that are quite disturbing

Just like Methadone may not work for some, neither will Chantix. There are many factors to consider. Though, for 90 dollars, and the fact that you probably spend more on nicotine a month, Its worth a shot to get rid of those bastards.

I've taken Chantix and have not had any side effects and the best part is I've been smoke free now for 2 weeks and that's an accomplishment for me, I used to be a 2 pack a day smoker, I pray this information helps anyone.:)
