Change.org

this one looks different than the previous posts - thanks!

I think this is a chance to really do something meaningful, not just another letter to another official who will not read it or not care. I think it is most interesting that legalization trumped some of the other causes there (such as green grid and the like), even if it isnt that many votes.

EDIT: Oh yeah and heres something related that any of our CD artists should check out http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=7707

i doubt this will do anything but its a nice website

edit: didnt read this part

"Ideas for Change in America is a nationwide competition to identify the best ideas for change in America. The top 10 ideas will be presented to the Obama administration just before inauguration day and form the basis of a nationwide advocacy campaign to turn each idea into actual policy."

sexy

i think this question has been the number one voted question since this began. id like to think something positive could come of this but i doubt much will change. Cant hurt any though!

These questions will get media coverage. Change.gov, the website affiliated with the Obama administration asked the public for their most important issues and guess what marijuana legalization was issue numero uno. It rendered a poor "we don't care" response but it did garner media attention. Not only that Change.gov is open for a second time for questions. Under National security is a question about ending the drug war, under environment is a few hemp questions, and under other issues is a few marijuana legalization questions. So vote in both Change.gov and Change.org.

Won't make much difference, I'll still have to walk across the street to get my bud, just wouldnt have to worry about cops

it would make a huge difference.

think of it on the international level..not just personal

plus i wouldnt have to worry about drug testing for employment =D

Do you have any links to the media attention?

^links to the media attention he is reffering to are in another thread. Also direct quotes.

This is great and I encourage even people from other countries to vote, for our sake. We're so fucked if something big doesn't happen. And maybe even more fucked if it does!

I really hope the Obama administration will be progressive enough to get over the fact that cannabis is "controversial" and look at the reality of the situation.

Its not that I'm pessimistic about it happening, its that obama seems like a wolf in sheeps clothing to me. Everybodys all like "OOoh a black guy! His president level must be over 9000! Theres no way we could go wrong, he promises everybody everything" :P I applaud him for being the first African American president. Sure wish he would make everything like the 70's with this unwinnable war and just legalize weed

x_posted from another thread.

Need I remind everyone who thinks the President is the most important Government official that you're wrong? Even if he voted for it, he'd get overturned by the rest of the Houses/Representatives. We're fucked, unless we vote in a lot more people who are pro-marijuana... which isn't going to happen.

gb2school and learn about how the Government works.

Obama has already stated that he is not in favor of legalizing marijuana at Change.gov:

Q: "Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?" S. Man, Denton

A: President-elect Obama is not in favor of the legalization of marijuana.

Oh, I did that already.

I just can't stand people who talk about how the President is going to make all these changes. He isn't the one who has the final say, end of story.

Yes, and we're trying to get a better answer as to why he doesn't and why he lied on the campaign trail about being against the War on Drugs.

All this change.org stuff may not make it legal or may not decriminalize it etc. but I think we can all agree it is a step in the right direction so GO VOTE!
