well...so what happened? Did you make primitive weapons and kill a bear? ...make a fishing line from a silk shirt? shape a block of ice into a lens to concentrate sun-light and start a fire? resort to cannibalism to survive? How did it end?
We had to live off the land (mainly eating small animals, edible plants, and bugs, didn't kill any bears) and made our own weapons, we could bring knives and stuff like that, but it had to be under a certain length (no machetes, saws, axes, etc.). We were given a specific list of what we could bring and what we couldnt. We could bring 550 cord, sewing kit (can be used for multiple things). We couldnt bring a lens to start fires, but we were given a magnesium block.

It was pretty much like a SERE training, we were hiding and trying to escape from "insurgents" who were tracking/trying to find us.

It ended good, was fucking exhausted by the end (obviously). We had to reach a specific destination in a certain amount of time.

Source? Numbers like that are often thrown about, but it helps to have the facts behind them if anyone cares to argue them. Heh, seems arguing in a meme thread is back on. Wonder if any of our Cali friends, or left leaners in general, care to argue these numbers.
Came from https://www.fairus.org/ ... "FEDERATION FOR AMERICAN IMMIGRATION REFORM" .. Typically ".org" website are credible sources of information. (from what I heard, I could be 100% wrong)

From the person (local Catholic priest) being interviewed

... We have mental health issues, we have people suffering from depression, we have a rise in alcoholism, drug addiction, abuse, domestic violence, and it's all as a result of what's taking place in our country

So, no personal responsibility, no questioning if there is a cultural influence, or any other factors, just "a result of whats taking place in our country" meaning Trump and his clamping down on illegal immigrants.

Does the CNN interviewer explore this? No. The very next statement is "What would happen if all the illegals were rounded up and deported?" To which the priest replies "This town would cease to exist." That says a lot about the mindset and motivation of the priest being interviewed. That's the first 2min of the video, before we ever get to the topic of (illegal) immigrants filling the void in the workforce for farmlands.

I get that the point of the clip, and your following comments, are that we need these immigrants for the farm work American's won't do. I sympathize with that to a degree, but can we be real about it?

The remainder of the video is with a farmer willing to talk about his troubles trying to hire someone for a position. First woman hired was a no-show = no indication to race, citizenship, anything, just that the first hire was a no-show. It is implied she is not an illegal immigrant, but not stated outright. "Then I hired another person, same problem" and same lack of clarifying anything about them or why they didn't show up. Maybe because the work is hard and undesireable, maybe because the pay is so low....I'm pulling these assumptions from thin air, but nothing more is provided from the 'interview' to clarify why anyone (note, I say ANYONE) may not want to work there (aside, from living in a small town in the SW corner of Minnesota perhaps not being atop people's desired places to live). "Then I hired another person who worked 4h and told me 'This is not what I want to do.'" Aha! The work sucks! "Then I hired another local born young man who worked 8h and said 'This work is too hard for me.'" Aha! First time any candidate has been referred to with race or citizenship, and is confirmed as white American. What about the first 3 who quit or no-showed?

Last 40sec is with an illegal immigrant. The questions are not helpful in any way as they cover the 'duh' aspects of it. "Is the work hard, dirty?" "Yes." "Those who hire you know you are undocumented and it is not important?" "Yes, they know, they don't care." "They know they need you?" "Yes." "The work would not happen without you there?" "Yes." We already know these things. Any worker believes the work won't get done if they aren't there...then again, I thought CNN was spinning this that there are illegal immigrants who would step in and do this job, so I guess the work WOULD get done without this individual, no? "What would you say to those who want undocumented immigrants out of the country?" "I would ask them to have mercy on us." I'll give them credit, the undoc worker shows his paychecks and that taxes are being taken out, that's a plus to shut up the conservative crowd.

4min of interviews that shows us a shit place to live, a shit job many people (regardless of race or citizenship) are not wanting to do, but that some undocumented immigrants are willing to do. This gives us no insight, no learning, and is a weakly constructed lecture from CNN that can be torn to shreds by an amateur like me.

what illegal haters/border wall supporters don’t realize how fucked we would be.

Illegals contribute more than they cost/detract from society.

Be pragmatic. My #1 problem with the far left and ALMOST ALL REPUBLICANS is that they don’t care what’s pragmatic.

Same as I asked Chris - show the stats and facts that support your claim that they contribute more than the cost/detract. Bring the facts, end the jawing for the sake of riling up the other side.

Pragmatic...how is this for pragmatic - the claim is that without this workforce, we wouldn't get our food in America, that we'd be importing more. What happens if that's the case? Cost of food rises, alternatives get explored - more farm automation in the US. Is it wrong for one of the most technologically advanced countries to automate more? Wages rise as we can pay more domestically and still be under the cost of imported foods. Is this not one of the basic ways to increase the attractiveness of employment, by raising wages? Maybe then more people (regardless of race or citizenship) would take the jobs? Perhaps we start importing more food and that is the answer. Countries like Mexico or those in Central America become the food sources (not a strategically wise move for us, but lets say it happens). Then the farm jobs are THERE and the employment is THERE. Such citizens have money flowing into their country, jobs to employ them, a means to support their families THERE. How is that not better for both the immigrants and those countries?

I'm not saying I'm for outsourcing our food supply, quite the contrary, I see it as a tremendous risk. I'm also not denying the large majority of farm workers in the US are immigrants - I'm quite sure of it intuitively, even without the facts. Is it inconceivable for immigrants to enter the country legally to work these jobs is Americans refuse to do it? That's one of the main points of allowing immigration - to meet a need we cannot fill from within our current population.

I don't agree with mass deportation simply for the fact of 'getting them out'. I'm in favor of immigration with a purpose, and a means to control that purpose (why would we allow in 50k workers for farms if the farms only need 20k, for example?). I believe conservatives beat the fear mongering drum saying there are MS-13 members entering illegally is both true (they do exist) but that they are a very small percent of those entering our country and many more simply are seeking asylum and a new life. Those with good reasons should have a means of entry and building that new life. The dregs should be caught by the same means that control who, and how many, are allowed in.

My last reply took too long to construct, and Chris answered. But, I had hoped to put in:

well...so what happened? Did you make primitive weapons and kill a bear? ...make a fishing line from a silk shirt? shape a block of ice into a lens to concentrate sun-light and start a fire? resort to cannibalism to survive? How did it end?

They all died, obviously.

Independent journalism...lol.

Was this directed at me? or Capt. H? Since you quoted him (don't know if his name is Chris as well).

Post #1602 I asked you. Though I see I had quoted his AOC meme I f'd it up - since removed the AOC meme as I intended to steal it for elsewhere. And, you answered, so thanks!

But yeah, #1602 was asking you, then #1605 I asked him.

PS - his name is not Chris, but I have no idea what pet names he may go by.
