Regarding the posting of right memes, I do it sometimes too. This is the meme thread, you're not supposed to assume everything someone posts is what they believe, it's supposed to be for chuckles or thought. Sometimes I post a right meme I think is so ridiculous that it's hard to believe.

I am obviously left-leaning personally, but I don't want this place to be an echo chamber. I also don't want people who are going to troll the place, but if we can't even discuss with people on the other side, how are we ever going to reconcile the situation we find ourselves in? We really, really need to start moving towards respecting each other and understanding each other again, or we're gonna end up with another civil war down the line. It's getting really ugly. And yes, it's hard for me to respect the right at the moment, because the way I see it is that their policies are destructive and wrong. However, I also realize that they feel the same way about the left. Although I think they've been hoodwinked and are misguided, they, too, are just scared about where we're heading and want the future to be better for themselves and their families.

Of course I don't mean the politicians and those making these things happen, those people are aware of what they're doing and are our enemies. I'm talking about the people, like those who might post in here. They're making us see each other as the enemy, as bad people... I mean hell, some of us can't even stop ourselves from making snide comments towards people on the opposite side on an Internet forum. The sad thing is that we're all on the same side, but they've sown division purposely and we're all falling for it. We're acting like the people in Washington are part of our tribes, and that the people are separated into two diametrically-opposed tribes, but in reality the people are all one tribe and the movers and shakers are dividing us. These people (I'm sure there probably exceptions, but not many at this point) don't give a fuck about us, they're after their own interests and they're using us as pawns.

Thanks for the explanation. While I'm cool with your reasons, it seemed to me that the left/right-ratio used to be more balanced. Some of the right-wing memes are hilarious, but the ones you posted over the last weeks weren't really funny, but I know that that is subjective.

Anyway, let's get back to memes, shall we?

(Btw, I never would've guessed that I could find a meme with this template funny)

Neo - there's a lot I think are too far, and won't bring over. I'll agree some of my recent ones are largely un-funny to most.

= = = =

Ali - we don't need to debate memes, we can either have a discussion on what one means in another thread (or PM), or just let this one go without trying to take things too seriously. I'm good either way.

i guess i just don't understand this aversion to discussion in this thread.

but if that's what you want, i guess i'll go find some memes :)

Neopunk - I think it's your bias. I'm pretty damn right leaning (certainly in today's political climate) & I find almost none of the leftist memes remotely amusing - most seem outrageously stupid to me. The only one that made me giggle was the Jordan B Peterson one. I find more than half of the 'rightist' ones posted by TLB amusing though. Obviously I too am biased (everyone is biased). I should also note I can be super literal which means I sometimes don't get jokes - kind of like someone with Asperger's.

I found your cartoon memes particularly bad/stupid; the land of opportunity one is apropros but not political IMO. To me nearly all leftist memes follow the same lame formula. Maybe you feel the same? I have a bunch of memes saved but probably they would not be well received here.

Am I the only one here that doesn't consider themselves either left or right?

Nope. I don't really consider myself left or right. I have some views that are conventionally considered right, and others that are conventionally considered left.

At best, I 'might' be very slightly left of center. I don't pay much attention to it though. I go where I feel the evidence, combined with my moral values take me. Sometimes that's left, sometimes it's right.

Same. If anything I probably identify more as a libertarian, yet I don't agree with everything as far as that goes either. It is probably the party I agree with the most tho. The more it's right vs left, democrats vs republicans the more I wonder if anything will ever change. (Not that I haven't fallen into the trap sometimes.)

Honestly, if I had to put myself somewhere, it's just right of center, but pretty damn middle, IMO. Which, I think, most people will say about themselves (that they are middle) unless they are strongly opinionated one way or another.
