Does the herb have a ceiling effect? (a point at which smoking more won't get you higher anymore) If so, does potency or species of the plant have an effect on it?

yes it does have a ceiling effect.
everyone seems to be different with rates of thc absorbtion and processing.

doesnt really matter on potency, as with the higher potencies you tend to fall asleep before you can reach it (depending on method of consumption)

however with edibles its VERY difficult to even discover any kind of ceiling effect as if you consume too much you usually -

A= barf it up after "spinning out"

or

B= fall asleep and wake up a day and a half later, still high til the day after that.

perhaps if one were to have a variety of strains on hand, you could simply switch strains every few hours to combat this, who knows...

enjoy finding out though!
let me know how it goes if you try it :D

(not very scientific as you most likely would forget what you set out to do halfway through!)

That isn't true in my experience. You can build up a tolerance to eating weed just the same as you do when smoking it. Sure lightweights might feel overwhelmed the first few times they eat but so do most first time smokers.

^Sure, but that's pretty uncommon. I eat a lot of edibles and have tripped on several substances and a slice brownie will still put me on my ass...

I don't really feel sick or pass out, but I deff get absolutely ruined to the point where I feel like I've just eaten shrooms. I guess it's a bit subjective.

To the OP, yeah, I feel there is a ceiling with smoking.... as for eating, I'm not sure. I've never tried to eat over 3.5g worth of potent, well made brownies... Any more would probably make it a bit unpleasant.

QFT

But typically when smoking I tend to get to a point where I am really just smoking to stay at that level. I'm sure it varies with strains though.

It's not uncommon at all for people whose ROA is eating cannabis. If you eat a brownie five times a day, everyday, then you are going to build tolerance.

There are sativa's out there they say do not have ceilings, but for the most part there is...

all this talk about edibles..I think I'm gonna go eat a canna-peanutbutter cookie.....yum

Well, I mean, I guess that is obvious... I was assuming normal use, and 5 edibles a day simply is not. If you are only eating, I suppose you'll notice a ceiling, though I can't claim to ever have come close enough to finding one, that's just to much use for me personally.

Lets be honest, if you are eating that much a day, you should probably cut back :) Assuming recreational purposes, of course. Maybe that was my wrong assumption.

It might not be "normal use" to you but to a medical patient eating cannabis regularly may be part of their normal life. Not everyone can inhale smoke :)

The OP asked if Cannabis has a ceiling effect. Yes Cannabis definitely has a ceiling effect whether you eat or smoke, it's called tolerance.

At a certain point your cells will no longer accept thc. So yes, there is a ceiling effect in that there's a limited amount of thc you can actually absorb.

yeah, definitely a ceiling effect. it may not be absolute, in the sense that you might always be able to get a little tiny bit higher, but marginal gains diminish VERY quickly the more you smoke.
