CE&P social thread: why do the people I disagree with hate freedom so much?

My favorite class for the new semester is a seminar on american political thought. My professor is a really smart/cool guy and most of the course is a back and forth discussion between him and the class.

We're studying Karl Mannheims book "Ideology and Utopia", its pretty interesting so far. He attempts to lay out a groundwork for detaching yourself from your own bias and looking at situations objectively. Supposedly he lays out a scientific approach to this later in the book, but im kinda skeptical about how it all actually works.

That sounds very interesting and informative. I would enjoy that. The scientific approach is what particularly intrigues me.

So...Obamacare is aiming to punish smokers with such high fees that healthcare will be made unnaffordable all over again. Don't tell anyone you smoke.

Does France punish its smokers like this in their universal healthcare system? Is ruining everyone's lives a major characteristic of American government?
 
yeah, don't tell anyone, that's a great idea.. .. except when you get ill related to your smoking, the public insurance won't cover you.

btw: fuck smokers, anything short of a catapult out of town is too good for them.
 
OMG...but they are buying American products and already paying for this. Cigs are already heavily taxed, and I do mean heavily. Smoker's purchases also create American jobs. Just give them some fucking healthcare! It's fair!

If this becomes policy, it's still a good idea to deny your smoking as far as you can since you will be forced to buy health insurance or pay a penalty that is almost just as expensive. At least you won't be paying smoker prices until you have a smoker's problem.

However, I am curious L2R, have you never smoked tobacco or cannabis? This is a drug site, what harmful drugs do you do?

It's always fun how alcohol escapes notice once again when it is a serious cause of health problems as well, but I don't get off on punishing people who are only making it bad for themselves.
 
i've played with a bit of this and that, but i've never smoked anything habitually or even remotely regularly. tobacco is like putting a bold neon "retard" sing over your face which emits toxic light to others too. speaking of which, what do you mean by "harmful"?


nb. search my 40K+ posts, and you will be hard pressed to find ten in the focus forums. this was the case when i smodded here too.
