CBD: a legal cannabinoid for opiate Withdrawal?

It's a non- psychoactive cannabinoid and can be legally obtained in preperations including oils, chewing gum, etc.
It apparently has anti-anxiety affects, not to mention the fact it's been used for chronic pain relief.

I'm looking into this as a non-addictive comfort drug to relieve opiate WDs, and have found absolutely zero anecdotal evidence. It's a long shot, but I'd be very interested to hear if people have tried this, and how they got on with it.

That's actually really interesting, it seems so obvious! A quick google search confirms that, indeed, hemp-based products (like hemp seed oil, which I imagine would be a pretty good way of obtaining CBN/CBD without messing around with weed). The only problem that I can see is that part of the reason it is allowed to be in these products is because they degrade, particularly in light. Though I imagine that you buy a can of hemp seed oil rather than getting it in a clear bottle to increase the amount of CBN you're (hopefully) taking.

You may also have to consume quite a bit, so it might be necessary to eat a salad with a hemp seed oil-based dressing or some sort of edible several times a day in addition to drinking a spoonful a few times a day in order to actually get enough into your system to do its thing. Or it may even be necessary to bind it to some fat in order for your body to absorb it efficiently (i.e. cannabis edibles) This may not agree with an opiate detox at all...though it definitely could be excellent for PAWS.

As I said, it seems so fucking obvious- and as long as you could work out a way to get some hemp-based product that hasn't gone through any process that would have caused the CBD to degrade (though baking THC/CBD/CBN in a cake doesn't hurt it) it should work...I know absolutely that cannabis, particularly higher CBD/CBN Indicia strains- maybe it's not so much the THC/CBD that's helping, but rather the CBN. Or perhaps even 'predosing' with CBN like this will give the cannabis that I smoke anyway a more noticeably therapeutic effect.

Thanks for mentioning this, it' really caught my attention and gotten the grey-matter working. I'm definitely gonna look into this properly when I'm not so pinned out. I'll post anything relevant I manage to dig out & flick ya a PM if I figure out anything helpful.

That's great, I'd appreciate that. Apparently, even hemp seed contains CBD in trace amounts, although you'd have to eat a LOT. I believe it's actualy
the CBD that's proven so effective for many chronic pain sufferers. I may be mistaken, but I believe it's legal to buy the isolated cannabinoid (at least in my country), although there are indeed hemp extracts on the market. Hell, why not just grow your own hemp? This whole thing about CBD seems to be so unknown, it's almost a secret.

As for smoking CBN-rich strains: YUCK! Our soapbar hash has high concentrations of this shit, and it always causes a grotty, foggy high, sometimes with headaches; I think hemp products would be preferable to this imo

Edit: I just noticed my thread title was mis-spelt; it's CBD that has painkilling properties, not CBN (can't believe I missed that...)

Weed has always helped with opiate withdrawal for me do I would imagaine this stuff would work too. Very interesting topic. If it does help, this could help tons of people.

Very interesting read; it looks like there really is something to this. (I was kinda taking a shot in the dark to be honest.) I just wonder exactly what it is about cannabis that reduces those symptoms...? Ie which cannabinoid in particular.

It's the THC that reduces the withdrawal symptoms mainly. I have a hard time believing the other cannabinoids actually contribute much. This is because I find synthetic cannabinoids like JWH-018 to be a far better withdrawal aid than actual cannabis, due to stronger effects.

Also, if you remove the psychoactive component of cannabis you will remove most of the relief it gives in my oppinion.

Stimulation of cb1/2 receptors causes an increase in endorphins indirectly through some butterfly effect, I don't remember the exact mechanism but I am pretty sure about it.

I wish I had more education in brain chemistry, but yeah a lot of the mental relief does feel to be from the psycho-active effects of smoking. The thing that got me onto CBD in the first place was a study claiming CBD-rich strains were more effective for chronic pain sufferers.
