Hello, BLers, I was wondering if you had any tips for coming down from stimulants. Of course there are the basics, which we all know - get sleep, exercise, eat healthy, get back to your normal routine, socialise, etc - but I'd like to know specifics. What has worked for you? Have you come across any research backing a particular strategy?
As this is a long post, I've divided it into categories to hopefully lessen its aesthetic nastiness.
[Substances]:
Apologies for not being more specific in the title; I've simply no idea what I took two days ago. It was of unknown dose or weight and supposedly an ecstacy pill. Reagent testing resulted in some interesting colour changes - none particularly conclusive, as the 8 tests disagreed with each other on most substance IDs excluding the confident absence of MDxx. There seemed to be some cathinones and definitely methamphetamine, though I had no idea as to the amount of each. I also ate a 15 mg THC edible (T-3h), drank about 40 mL cognac (T-.5h), and smoked an unknown-amount-less-than-half-a-joint of pot (T-1h). Not really relevant but perhaps there are some interactions I'm unaware of that could cause mid- to longer-term effects / comedown.
[Effects]:
I didn't sleep at all that night (at T+5h), and felt decently buzzed for about 7 hours after ingesting. The comeup / high lasted about 4h. I'm sure it would have plateaued for another 4-6h had I not been trying to fall asleep. Jaw stiffness as usually happens with stimulants for me only set in at T+16h. I didn't feel tweaked and am fairly certain there wasn't much meth. However, it's now approximately T+50h, and I still feel rather dissociated / floaty / mildly buzzed. Alongside this, I feel physically numb and detached from my body. My cognitive functioning and ability to focus is much worse. My energy level, which was not high before, is now firmly in the gutter. The pot-induced lack of joint and muscle tension was a nice interlude, but now it's returned, and seemingly worse than prior to two nights ago due to the juxtaposition. And now I've got jaw tension to add to that from the stimulant blend.
It would be nice if the lethargy would go away, but to that the only solution (which actually works for me) is more stimulants, so I suppose I've to grin and bear it. Lastly, I noticed my heart was racing during the plateau period, and now I have a sense of pressure on my upper chest around the sternum - not quite pain, but solid discomfort, as well as feeling unable to breathe properly. (I'm incredibly congested and have nosebleeds despite avoiding intranasal use like the plague, but neither of these are related to orally taken stimulants as far as I can tell. Tangential, but if anyone has any advice on these matters, I'm all ears...well, eyes.)
Thus exercise is the last thing I want to do in this state. But I know it will be beneficial, which brings me to the next section of this verbal diarrhoea. What sort of exercise is better as a comedown aid?
[Comedown aids]:
From a preliminary internet search, it seems that 5-HTP is not much effective post hoc (especially considering the ratio in which meth affects dopamine vs serotonin), and that its use in aiding comedown is anecdotal. I'd also like to avoid illicit psychoactive drugs for some time, since I can't afford them financially and am trying to bring my body to a healthier baseline.
Things I've already done:
- drank water (1-1.5 L per day)
- taken potassium iodide (I figure I get enough sodium from my food)
- ate (not always the healthiest, but enough nutrients / calories)
- returned to my schedule (working 0530-1230, attending classes, albeit avoiding the actual assignments)
- taken supplements during T+16-29h (many random pills including magnesium, vitamins B, C, D, iodine, ALA, NAC, omega-3, L-tyrosine, zinc, all with food, and charcoal on an empty stomach to help 'detox' - I admit I am uninformed and didn't prepare well for this; Father Dopamine, please forgive me)
- had a warm bath with magnesium sulphate at T+29h (which helped with the muscle tension not one iota)
- (tried to) sleep (night 1: laid awake in the dark for 7 hours and intermittently arose to urinate and drink water; night 2: got about 7 hours with the aid of melatonin and trazodone)
Being a self-centred little human, I'm only looking for detailed tips to alleviate my particular symptoms. But of course feel free to share anything related to stimulant comedowns that others may find helpful. Perhaps we can compile a master thread. Thanks in advance.
