Oh this is a weird one . . . must have been a combination of sleep deprivation and some strange chemical in the Waffle House coffee that prompted this poem . . . regardless, I was very suprised when I re-read this this morning.
Maddness descends –
My audience relinquishes her position
And I subsist, remiss with longing.
Wishing for pedantic erudition
To stay afloat in swirling eddies of
Detritus, the disintegration
Of ambition via negligence.
Great poems of love,
Read and manufactured
To reflect upon what I understand
As ill-suited sentiments,
Give direction and company in
Anguish, yet also reopen old wounds,
And flood a fragile psyche
With unrealized dreams.
In these hours when
Antiseptic reflection yields
The dissention of madness
I am granted an audience
And bask in the glowing hell
Of the muse
I chose
to invoke!
