Cat rescuing a four-year-old boy being attacked by a dog

Cats always come and sit on my lap if I'm at somebody's house who has cats. They seem to really like me. Owners sometimes get a bit miffed that the cat who turns its nose up at them (except at feeding time of course) makes a beeline for me and purrs away like a kitten. Apparently I'm a cat in Chinese astrology and have a feline nature. Perhaps. Or maybe I just smell of fish.

haha, on one occasion a cat entered the room at a gathering in someomes house, everyone was trying to encourage/hassle the cat to approach them, except for me. The cat decided to ignore evryone who was hassling it and jumped up on to my lap. The person who was staying in that house couldnt resist the urge to put me down as that did seem to make me look a bit pleased about things, "the cat just likes that chair" he said. Fucking sour grapes bastard, I'd have laughed it off now about 'thanks for bursting my bubble' but me and that guy were not getting on very well at that time.

^ lmao.... What a cat.... but bought to the wrong owner. Weird story.

great link, thanks for starting a thread Dan. The story well deserved it.

People getting aggressive dogs and then not securing them properly is a real issue. I was once bitten by a dog as a kid thinking it's owners wouldn't possibly be careless enough to let a dangerous dog loose.

I never thought it fiond myself saying this but i have had a total change of heart about cats, that story about that cat today/yesterday just clinched it. I never knew that they bonded so closely with human "packs" like dogs are so well known for doing. Apparently that cat slept curled up with that boy when it was a baby. Pure instict to barrel into that dog that was twice its size. Fearless furball so it was. %)

I guess the cat see's the child and family as it's parents. They feed it, so it's instincts are to protect them for it's own survival.

It's also worth noting that cat's are very possessive and territorial creatures. For instance, I cannot climb a tree outside coz the cat will come and attack me as it see's the trees as it's possession. (I unfortunately found this out at a considerable height once)

I never knew that cats attacked people. 8o I might be paranoid around here now as it really is Cat City. It seems like there are at least 20 cats in or around the single block of terraces that I live in, i see them prowling along the back yard walls and stuff all the time. One of them kind of snarled at me once from the top of its wall, I'd better be slightly more wary of them from now onwards. :sus:

So that cat in the OP wasnt a hero cat, it was just selfishly making sure that it continued to get fed ? Are they really that calculating? Or like you say, i guess its just an instinctive thing. Im sure that if anyone ever threatened a dogs owners that the dog would try to defend its owners.

If you knew my cat, you'd be in no doubt that cats like to attack people. Mine more so than most.

Haha. <3 Cats.

Interesting.

Cats are very curious though... that quite possibly overrides any immediate attachment to their owners. It would be interesting to see what would happen if a cat was kept away from it's owner for a week.

I certainly know that both our cats quite often come to the door when I go home ... only when I haven't been home for over a week or so though. They don't tend to come to the door for anyone else unless it's my Mum near meal times... so they must know it's me somehow.

One of our cats also nuzzles my armpits on occasion & licks my hair all the bloody time when I'm on the sofa. He will however lick people who are making a fuss of him who he doesn't know. Sucker for attention.

My cat is super loyal. She follows me around everywhere in the house, loves to have her belly rubbed, gets really jealous when the dog gets more attention, and doesn't trust anyone except people who have been introduced.

This happens quite regularly. A cats reaction to forced seperation depends on the cat. One cat I had was extremely affectionate, loved us to bits but got very moody the first few days back from the cattery, as in, "you fucks, you left me in a abox for a week, I NO forgive you... yet". Another cat, equally affectionate & loving, all over us like a bad suit, purring constantly & very, very happy to be back, upon return from the cattery. That behaviour usually lasted a week.

Cats are all different.

Very true.

Our cats tend to be a bit moody if they have been left home alone (bar being fed by someone) or been in a cattery. Usually if we feed them, they will come around within an hour or two.

Different breeds have different personalities though. We've had two Abyssinians in my lifetime & they are known for being affectionate. Same with Burmese cats I believe... I think I'll probably get a Burmese at some point down the line. (Called Pippin. :D )

Our moggy on the other hand is happy to do his own thing. He very rarely sits on anyone's lap.

Some of the cats round here seem to be very confused as to where they actually live, or maybe they just try everyones house to see who will let them in if they know their real owners are gonna be away for some time. I had one miawing very loudly outside my front door last night, i was surprised that it seemed to undertsand my pointing gesture as if to say 'you dont live here you fool, try next door' after a few seconds of looking a bit surprised/shocked/amazed. Other cats have tried to get in via the back too. I reckon they are just opportunistic, they must be smart enough to recognise their own fucking house surely. 8)

There is one that looks like a darkly coloured snow leopard, if that one tries to get in, im gonna make a rug out of it as it's really striking....:sus:
