Carlos Castaneda (Don Juan)

Guru's list, Pappy? Dunno really. Not a big reader of 'em. Must admit to a deep affection for Terence Mckenna tho. Would have to say that much of what he talks about is also bollocks but at he's considerably less rapey/murdery than Castaneda. Which is always nice. Probly the bestest vocabulary of any of 'em tho which is truly a boon. Check out some of his talks on PooToob perhaps. That voice of his either makes ya wanna strangle him or gather round his feet and gaze up doe-eyed 'pon his Swirliness. As you prefer. Or perhaps somewhere in between. Mucho bollox but says it so damn sweetly <3

I found the guy to be a genius, His Food of the gods is an amazing book which gave me alot to think about for several years after reading it.

Not sure I'd quite stretch to "genius" cos I really don't buy into all of his stuff (Time Wave Zero being a prime example) but I find that his ideas are never less than fascinating and often very insightful. That and he was just such an incredibly talented writer/speaker. Can listen to his talks for hours even when I'm not exactly convinced by some of his arguments. Definitely worth reading and listening to whatever he happens to be pondering 'pon though.

Quite like some of Timothy Leary's ideas too but mucho bollox in and amongst the good bits. Another one I really enjoyed was Marcia Moore's Journey to the Bright World. Best "guru" type book on ketamine I've read but I need to look into Dr Lilley a bit more for comparison really.

Marcia is one of my faves too Shammy. I think the Dr Lilley book to check out first is The center of the cylone - apparantly Bill Hicks dug it too. That ones more about LSD than K tho.

I read about two-thirds of one of his books years ago and didn't find it particularly interesting, his bio is food for thought though haha.

I was right, should have opened the link sooner

"In a tragic end to this story, a year after publication, Moore became one of the few ketamine-related fatalities on record. Apparently, in an attempt to hide her ketamine use from her increasingly concerned husband, she went outside on a freezing-cold night, climbed into a tree, and after a number of injections, ended up dying from exposure. Her skeleton was found over two years later"

I think there was some story that her husband made up the bit about her "taking Ketamine in the tree" because he wanted to discredit Ketamine - same reason why he did his best to withdraw her book from circulation.

Can't get much higher recommendation than both Bill Hicks and Issy Mene really. Will put it on me Xmess letter to Santa :)

I loved Ms Moore's lil book. Shame she didn't last long enough to write mo(o)re on the subject. The tree story does sound kinda... iffy. But don't know enough about it to form much of an opinion. Such tales are always great in the mythologising stakes necessary for any respectable guru though.

Lilley sounds like a fascinating character from the bits and pieces I've picked up about the fella. His website was somewhat vomitous last time I saw it though so didn't delve in too deep at the time.

Lilley is hard to warm to tho - you can never really like the guy because he's so cold and impersonal even when he's describing his acid trips. He's got a strange, sorta dull writing style too. But Center of the cyclone is the best of his I found.

I think Karl Jansen mentions something in his book "Ketamine Dreams and Realities" about the Marcia overdose in a tree saying it sounded fishy, I think he thought it was a deliberate attempt at suicide rather than an overdose - like that guy, what's his name, the one who writes a lot about mixing drugs and then drowns in the bath on K. Apparantly that was suicide rather than an accident too.

DM Turner also did the ketamine "suspicious suicide/accident" thing. Ket is one of those drugs that seems to lend itself to "death by misadventure" more than most. Given his vasty experience of any and all drugs I'd definitely suspect suicide in Mr Turner's case though.

Have heard on Jansen but not much really. Don't really read many of these kinda books tbh. Have become more interested of late but mostly decided all such folk were tossers in the past so am a bit of a latecomer to such things.
