Carisoprodol(Soma) and GABA-a receptor activity

i was just perscribed 250mg. somas today for painful muscle stiffness. i have tried somas recreationaly, with a feeling of dullness and drowsiness being the only effects.

but i hear people love these and compare them to benzos. after some research, i found out that somas affect the GABA-a receptors in a similar manner as benzos, alcohol, and barbiturates.

what part does carisoprodol affect? does it have affinity for the benzo sites or the barbiturate sites, or does it affect another part of the GABA-a receptors?

the reason i'm asking is i have 30 of these pills, and want to know more about their mechanism of action and maybe i'll find a way to have fun with them, as i love benzos, barbs, booze, and ludes.

does anybody have any info on how these work?
 
Carisoprodol does not mediate its effects via the Benzodiazepine Site of the GABA-A Receptor. Also its effects are more similar to barbiturates than benzodiazepines. Stimulus effects of carisoprodol are antagonized by a barbiturate antagonist, bemegride, but not by the benzodiazepine site antagonist, flumazenil.
 
really? last night i took 4 250mg. somas and they felt nothing like a barb or even a benzo. the feeling i could most compare it to is like codeine after the euphoria wears off and you just feel dull and out of it. its not very fun but it is a good muscle relaxant so its doing what it was given to me for.
 
You need more than that. I used to take 4 of those big ass Watson 500mg somas when they were still made.

You=1000mg = not enough.

Me=2000mg= :)

You at least need 500-1000mg more to be in a great barb like euphoria.

Try 1500-1750mg next time.

Where the hell are you going to find Reds. Those aren't prescribed anymore. Its only used in hospitals via IV. You would have to need some old prescription bottles. Seconal isn't on the streets anymore...I could be wrong but it would be rare. I don't know how you could find any sort of consistent hook-up. Its not produced in labs.
 
carisoprodol is metabolized into meprobamate like codeine is metabolized into morphine- in small amounts so you have to take a shitload of the drug to get effects from the better metabolite.

but even meprobamate, though quite recreational, is not better than a good barb(secobarbital) or benzo(temazepam, flunitrazepam, clonazepam) in my opinion.

in los angeles they're around on the street. $5-7 per pill, and their not just available in I.V. form, they're still used in private hospitals for oral sedation(that means pills). reds on the street are usually diverted from this fancy hospitals and end up on the street along with other perscription drugs like xanax, valium, oxycontin, percocet, restoril, klonopin, vicoden, opana, adderall, ritalin, and more recently vyvanse, ambien, lunesta, seroquel, provigil, and tramadol.

however, seconal is harder to get than others.

You're not going to get (good, short acting, like somas are) barb effects from somas regardless of the dose. Similar, sure, but worlds apart. I would not recommend 1500-1700mg for someone who is obviously naive to them. Thats 6-7 pills for him, or ~4-5 for me (I have 350mg pills). I've been taking somas for years, often but not daily, and I wouldn't up and take 1500mg.

Welll, not unless I wanted to lose control of my legs, fall, and hit my head. But thats after I eat $30 worth of food for from the fridge that I don't even remember (till I see the stains on my shirt and the boxes the next morning and crack the case). Now, maybe I'm unique in getting so retarded from them, they're not bad, I'm just saying thats a large amount for someone whos is "soma-naive" to take.

There's no benzo-cross tolerance to worry about, so unless he takes meprobamate or phenprobamate he doesn't have any sort of previous tolerance to worry about. For the average first timer I'd give them 2 pills (thats 700mg of my pills), and considering how quickly they kick in, another pill if they needed it in the next 30 minutes or so. Again, thats just me. So thats a total of 1050mg. Anyone I know who had no tolerance to somas would be fucked from that. I just cannot advocate a carisoprodol newbie take 1500-1750mg. I find that its best taken staggered, ever 10, 20, 30 minutes, whatever you choose, then you can feel it for more than an hour and a half.

Not calling you out PJ, it is what it is.
 
^ I used to take 1250 mg pretty often and that much would make me laugh a huge amount, very euphoric and very, very dizzy. I'd sometimes mix it with other drugs that act on GABA receptors (not recommended, it was dangerous and I'm lucky) and it'd make me literally unable to stand, which is an effect I consider desirable, because I enjoy being too dizzy to stand. I was around 120 lbs. at the time, so that might have something to do with it, but I definitely wouldn't recommend taking more then 1.5 grams for a naive person. I prefer how soma feels to most other benzos, but each to his own. Drug choice is a matter of personal preference.

I am experienced with soma, and he is somewhat tolerant based on the info he put in. I can obviously tell he is one of those high-rollers, and anything under a gram is not gonna do jack squat to him... I can see that you probably did not use soma in it's heyday. 2 grams sounds like a lot to you, but that was only 4 500 mg pills back then, compared to the 8 250 mgs you would have to pop now.

Soma is just not as potent as people think. A gram and a half to two grams, I must stick with this.

Now if he went over 2 grams on the first shot, then this is wiggly wobbly stone cold stupor and possible blacking out for him... ... waking up with nacho cheese all over your shirt.

I love soma with some opiates. By itself not so much.

the other day i got retarded on them, I popped nine 350mg soma's with 8 percocets 10mg through out the day, by night time I was a zombie. I was nod walking around the house. I went to take a piss, I was in the bathroom for probably an hour and I don't even remember what I did while I was in there, probably just nodding. I also fell down.

becareful soma is strong and unpredictable

Of course those others you can get on the street, they are prescribed in abundance or are stolen from pharmacies. Seconal isn't prescribed and isn't stocked in pharmacies. Only potential place would be hospitals and that would be really hard to be get from, although it is. Regardless, very tough to get a hold of. A consistent hook-up would be near impossible.

As for the thread, I personally liked (and still do) Some because I had such a massive tolerance to benzodiazepines that I couldn't get high from them anymore I was prescribed 8mg Clonazepam/Alprazolam with 60mg Temazepam for nearly a decade. When I could get high from them I liked the two probably equal (benzos and Soma). I actually enjoyed the subtle sedation and nice relaxation that it produced. A Soma coma (as I call it when taking high doses) is also fun. I personally don't like the barbiturates that are prescribed these days as much as either Soma or benzodiazepines. Sure, Seconal and the other Schedule II barbs are great but I don't have hook-ups for that stuff.

Sure, Seconal and the other Schedule II barbs are great but I don't have hook-ups for that stuff.

good thing i do have a red hook-up. if theres a demand with people(like myself) willing to pay $$$, theres a supply somewhere...
