I wasted good money twice buying X that had my friends rolling like crazy, but did shit to me. I had no idea why, until I read somewhere on Bluelight, that it was impossible to roll because the antidepressant blocks that fun little part. I've been on antidepressants of various kinds over the years & do not believe I'm on an SSRI currently (Cymbalta & Wellbutrin). Do u think I could roll this time?

Cymbalta (Duloxetine) is a SNRI (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor), Wellbutrin (Bupropion) is a mild psychostimulant.

Honestly, it may be dangerous. MDMA is a stimulant in itself, and depletes serotonin. In combination with Cymbalta, you may not only not be able to roll, you'd be risking serotonin syndrome. I would strongly suggest avoiding MDMA or any drug that acts on serotonin.

The SNRI your taking is going to inhibit your roll. The serotonin that would be dumped from the receptors from the MDMA has already left those receptor sites for you. The cymbalta blocks serotonin re-uptake transporters. MDMA works by binding to these receptors, but it cannot. That does not mean you'll get serotonin syndrome, this is a very common misconception. It's actually quite the opposite. To get serotonin syndrome way too much activation of these receptor sites needs to occur, therefor the effects of that serotonin are active upon the body and brain, thus sending the user into a hypertensive crisis amongst a whole lot of other shit you really don't want, just take my word for that. This is all to assume that MDMA works upon the 5-ht serotonin receptors, which is a pretty accepted idea. These drugs don't synergize; they cancel each other out, so none the less, you cannot roll.

The wellbutrin acts upon norepinephrine and dopamine receptors, it's potential for serotonin syndrome is low. There are very few cases to support that wellbutrin would induce serotonin syndrome alone, but there is really no need to find out. It has been loosely associated with SS and the reason why is relatively unknown, thats enough of a reason to be cautious when taking it.

All that said, it's a bad combo. The wellbutrin alone may have put you at risk for SS, but the SNRI is going to block the effect of MDMA anyway. Combining all three.. who really knows aside from those who have tried it. I can tell you this is though... it'll either be bad, or nothing will happen at all. I hate to tell you that, but it's the true answer. You'd have to look into slowly weening off your medication SAFELY and for quite some time before considering rolling.

Thanks for your replies! I've always wondered why I had trouble "feeling" the pills.

On a side note, how common is serotonin syndrome & what are it's symptoms? I've tripped on DXM quite a few times while on my antidepressants. Wrong thread, but you mentioned SS, so I figured it'd be a good time as any to ask.

SS is quite rare and it is seemingly dependent not only on a terribly unfortunate drug combo, but all the choices you've made in the past. Such as, how often you've rolled, smoked weed, done other drugs and so on. Slowly you become more susceptible to the syndrome.

To get SS you need to alter you serotonin levels to a point where your brain cannot handle all the excitement, this is done through serotonergic drugs being taken way too frequently or in combination with one another. For instance rolling too often, then taking 5-htp for multiple days in a row afterwards while smoking lots of weed can trigger SS. It would be even more likely that this would happened if you re-dosed on MDMA most of the the time and smoked weed like fucking 6 times a day for a couple of year prior to the incident (this is what happened to me). There are a lot more drug combos that can induce SS, but honestly, it is a rare happening. It's rare because the combinations of drugs needed to bring about SS are ones people often don't intend to take. When taking two powerful serotonergic drugs simultaneously, it is a very possible happening.... Although it's rare, anyone can get it really.. they just have to do all the wrong things. That's why is it so important to know what drugs you are taking and all possible contraindications.

Symptoms of SS would include heat flashes, a racing heart beat, high blood pressure (lasting for A LONG TIME) , fear of imminent death, paranoia, anxiety, muscle contractions, muscle twitches, audio and visual hallucinations, chills, shivers, nausea, diarrhea (when it comes to nausea and diarrhea you will realize that your bowels are paralyzed and you cannot do either but you really feel as if you have to), psychosis, bloating of the liver, kidney/intestinal bleeding (identifiable through blood in urine/stool), dizziness, lightheadedness, seeing black spots/feeling as if you are about to black out, seizures, coma, fever and death. Afterwards you'll experience HPB, possibly HPPD, severe emotional instability, unlock a predisposition to several mental disorders you never knew you had and some of the more psychological symptoms I just mentioned (stress, anxiety, paranoia, depression etc.).

As someone who is pretty sure that he got SS in the past I can tell you that if it is happening to you, you'll know something is terribly, terribly wrong.

My sister got seratonin syndrome from a diet, given to her by a nutritional therapist. She occasionally drinks, but no drugs.

Well, they THEORIZE it was seratonin syndrome. They never came up with a diagnosis. After two months straight of this bizarre illness, it went away one day with no treatment--except for quitting her diet and exercise regimen. She was having eye wiggles so bad, she would get motion sickness from walking and extremely bad heart palpitations that were painful. Went to the ER a couple times because she thought it was a heart attack.

Regardless, you will KNOW if you get SS. I don't recommend stopping your medication to roll, and I definitely do not recommend rolling on your meds. None of us are doctors and can't advise anything more than that.

Wow, SS sounds terrible indeed. I'm pretty sure I've never gone through anything so horrible sounding (besides heroin withdrawal years ago). But I'm worried about the possible cumulative effect. I've been on antidepressants & mood stabilizers since I was 19 (Prozac, Abilify, Lexapro, Effexor, Lamictal, Seroquel, Trazodone, Depakote & now Cymbalta & Wellbutrin, w/ Kpins as needed). I've only done X twice in my life (never rolled), but have done heavy amounts of cocaine & heroin IV' ed in the past as well as high dose DXM highs & near daily amounts of high grade weed. I've been diagnosed with severe major depression & Bipolar II disorder, so I think I'm naturally serotonin depleted..lol.

Sorry for the life story, I've just always been (mostly) concerned with SS for awhile, but the addict in me won't leave drugs alone (with exception of cocaine, heroin & meth).

SSRIs kind of piss me off. They are shown to be hardly effective at treating depression and can actually make it worse, they are over perscribed, cause serotonin downregulation over time AND they can kill you if you take cough medicine with them...

Maybe I just don't get it though...

I have manic depression as well, and I'm pretty sure I'm slightly insane on some kind of level, but I've never been prescribed anything other than an inhaler... I think I'm happier that way.
