I have not smoked Cannabis in around 8 years but am stilll having nigkmares is it the Cannabis being stopped smoking that has done this after 8 years? surely not?

Can my doctor who wont give me anything give me something to stop the nightmares or give me any kind of drug or help to stop this? I have been to see a shrink and these dreams still continue. He recomended reading a book about dreams and I did several times and that never worked either. Should I change doctor if he continues to ignore my nignmares? I also sleep walk and have been known to make a cup of tea in my sleep which could hurt me aswell as banging my hands and arms off the walls hurting myself.

better ask another doc for a second opinion.
when i was having trouble with lots of bad dreams, physical exhaustion helped me to sleep better.

oh btw, are you taking melatonin, 5-htp or any other supplements/medications?

just asked because i`ve often heard that melatonin and 5-htp can be dream-inducing.

I'm taking melatonin after quitting smoking a few weeks ago. In last nights dream I was in the old city of Jerusalem 'accidentally' shooting civilians while on the search for weed :\

OP I don't know man .....8 years is a loooong time. For how long did you smoke ? (pls don't say 2 weeks =D)

Do your nightmares have recurrent themes? Work on your nightmares, write them down and see if you can see familiar patterns
I'm pretty sure you can't get a pill to stop nightmares. What you have to do is confront your fears :

"There is no cause for fear. It is imagination, blocking you as a wooden bolt holds the door. Burn that bar...."

My old doctor gave me a repeate prescription for mogo somethings and they stopped the nightmares completly. I have incredibly horrible nightmares that have en effect on me days after they occur.

One of my mom's friends has a similar problem as well.

I have been a very heavy weed smoker for the last 3/4 years and she has been a moderate one for 20 +.

I try to dissassociate myself from the dreams I have as much as I possibly can.

I used to never get vivid dreams but after I took a 1 month break last summer I have had such intense dreams, weed definetly doesn't help.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. I do believe that marijuana and dreams bare some correlation I hear to often from people that stoping smoking brings about the weird dreams.

They don't bother me THAT much anymore but my sleep patterns have been fucked for sometime. Adapt and overcome man.

Yes thank you thank you. I am also suicidal and mum thinks because this is a new doctor he has not looked up my records and that is why he is not giving me any support.

Thank you everyone so very much <3

Results everyone. Here goes. I went to see my doctor and as he is a new doctor he had not read up on my notes between this visit and the last.

He has prescribed me 5mg Nitrazepam 5mg for one month only.

and

10mg Citalopram which he says will start to work within around 2 weeks.

So I do have a good doctor its just that he is new and had not read all his patiants files which is not his fault as he has a large amount of patiants.

So thank you all so much for being here with me and the advice given <3

Melatonin over the counter sleep aid may be worse your consideration.

honestly No but check into that & you may have great results.

I am writing all this down exactly what is happening for my doctor being totally honest. Is this a good idea? I did not trust him at the start but trust him now.

yep thats a good thing. he wont be able to help you properly if you dont tell him the whole story.

^I feel ya re: bad dreams/nightmares. I've had unbelieveably vivid and lucid dreams for most of my life, many of which veer in the direction of nightmares. Even when I was smoking cannabis multiple times a day, I'd still have intense dreams....Have you thought about looking into methods to actually utilise the dremas, ie: lucid dreaming techniques? In my own dreamstate, I can attain a fair degree of control over what occurrs in them; it becomes fun at times. Last night, I was some kind of gangster in a world made of laneways, driving a plane around...there were very startling moments, but when I knew I was dreaming, I was able to negate some of the more panicky aspects.

BTW, modadon IS nitrazepam.
