Cannabis usage before sleeping and dreams

Hey everyone, I recently stopped smoking about 2 weeks ago. Before that, I smoked on average once a day before going to bed, but I often smoked more during weekends. I did that for a few months, and I smoked pretty small amounts of good cannabis each time.

When I stopped, I noticed that during these few months, I couldn't remember a single dream I had. Also, during the two past weeks, almost each morning I could remember very clearly dreams I had the past night. Sometimes, I could remember more than one dream and my dreams were so vivid they almost felt real.

Is there anything similar that hapenned to you guys? Does smoking weed before going to bed prevent you from having dreams? Are dreams more frequent and vivid when taking a break from cannabis after a long time of usage before going to bed?

I Remember reading something about cannabis messing with your deep sleep / dreaming, can't for the life of me find a link about it though, maybe a google missions for you dude? hah sorry.

I'll throw in my piece anyway, the odd time I can't get any smoke in for a day or two when I eventually get to sleep I have very intense vivid dreams, can't remember them so well though.

I believe cannabis helps you fall into a deep sleep cycle, whereas it's the REM cycle that makes you dream. Naturally, smoking will reduce the amount of dreams you can recall anyway. Perhaps when taking a break your brain will compensate with more dreaming sleep? I say this cautiously, but your dreams is where your mind processes a lot of waking information, and this mechanism is actually quite beneficial mentally (besides also playing a psychological role on your psyche).

I can't really say whether cannabis reduces the need for dreaming states (and maybe REM sleep altogether) or actually prevents the mind from doing what it's supposed to do. Very worthwhile to check into that.

Same here.
When I smoke every day, I never have/remember any dreams.
Then, when I quit, I have and remember many dreams every night.
Among my dreams are many dreams about weed - about smoking "by accident" when I was supposed to have quit, or finding some, or trying to find some...
I dream about weed for 3 weeks or more, and then (when my addiction is finally over, as I see it), I stop dreaming about weed.

Smoking suppresses REM sleep I have read, and that is responsible for most of dreaming. I have smoked cannabis daily for quite a number of years with a few breaks in between, every time I quit I get pretty intense dreams for a few weeks.

i heard somewhere that weed doesnt necessarily mess around with your REM sleep cycle, but just makes the dreams that occur in it almost impossible too remember .
(lets face it . we can see why . just look at how weed affects our short term memory while were high)

Dreams are a way your brain converts its short term memories into long ones. And i guess in the long term smoking before bed for the majority of the time isnt good ?

i personally believe that weed decreases your sleep quality (presuming you dont have sleep problems. Cause obviously you will have a better sleep burnt out as fuck rather than suffering from insomnia being up all night)
Of course i have no sources too back this up (any help would be nice :) ) but i can tell you that i have found alot of weed smokers out there who find that not smoking for 4+(more the better ! ) before bed improves sleep quality .

i tend too find my self more energized , less groggy and more focused if i dont smoke weed before going too bed.
Also if i tend too have vivid dreams from cutting down on weed , i tend too feel more happy and motivated in general for some reason . no idea why :S

i dont like to smoke right before i go to bed..you waste the weed and i love the sleepy feeling 2-4 hours after a smoke and i can drift into sleep but i n ever have any drim==ea

I never remember my dreams unless they are vivid or I haven't smoked directly before falling asleep, but what fun is that?

Things that help? that dream herb calae zachatechichi I don't even know if that's spelled right, as well as melatonin, tryptophan. You don't have to lose your dreams but in withdrawal the nightmares are nice to get rid of. Also keeping a dream journal helps a ton.

Taking break always gives me really vivid and memorable dreams for a few nights. Calea is good stuff if you want wild dreams, but it tastes pretty horrible and fucks up your sleep cycles so you'll propably wake a few times a night while doing it (though weed does this too. And it only really works in continued use, week or so at least. Melatonin on the other hand does not affect my dreaming, but it's AMAZING sleep aid. I'd recommend it to anyone with issues on getting sleep.

Used to smoke everynight before bed, i couldn't sleep without it. Had the best uninterupted sleep ever. Suffered from bad insomnia and weed cured it :)

I believe this is rather commong side effect of quitting continued smoking. I do not suffer much from sleeping difficulties when I run out of grass, but for everyone who does, I'd highly recommend melatonin as it is quite harmless and available over the counter in most countries.

When I quit my dreams became ridiculously vivid, occasionally they'd become lucid, freaked me the shit out and I always got back into 'bed' when I realised I was dreaming so that I woke up in real time

I had a few dreams about weed after quitting too. One of them felt particularly real. I felt like I was extremely high and I was trying to pack a bowl but I wasn't able to because shit kept hapenning. I ended up waking up before I managed packing a bowl and I can still remember all of it clearly... I really get fucked up dreams for a few weeks after quitting smoking daily and most of them are quite entertaining (I never thought dreaming could be fun before).

If I smoke too little I can't sleep at all, and if I smoke too much, I definitely don't have dreams. I believe this is because in my case THC inhibits my REM sleep. Dreams are overrated.

REALLY? because for me THC seems to enhance my dreams... they are just a tad bit foggy.... lol

I notice that I have better dreams after smoking, far more vivid and I'm more likely to have a lucid dream. I don't dream as much though, or at least I don't remember the whole dream like I do on melatonin. I feel far more refreshed the next morning though, I can get up straight away instead of drifting in and out of consciousness for an hour before finding the strength.

Sometimes I take a high dose of melatonin when I sleep if I want to dream, dreaming while stoned... :)

I have never had dreams ... maybe once every couple of months I will remember *something*. Even before I started smoking. So I'm not much help :(
