cannabis school?

I love cannabis and the study of the surrounding botany. Is there certain criteria to meet before you can become a student?

Have you tried addictions counselling?
I did do some court mandated therapy thing that sounds similar inlue of outpatient a while back which i regretfully may have 2 do again >.< was a life saver cause that shit has really counter productive effects on some myself included. We played mad chess & bs'ed on occasion, it was surprisingly not suxy. I still want to donate my life to healing (legally) with cannabis but it must be within the confines of the law. (always geekings on ma computron)

On its own, horticulture/gardening is really awesome anyways.. Would you have the same opinion if he wanted to become a gardener/horticulturist growing more traditional plants?
Nooo!! Why is this(wanting to grow tomatos, potatos or the cannabis sativa L.) sooo wrongg/taboo!

My buddy is going to this, I thought he was joking. I mean...Oaksterdam? What a fucking marketing ploy.

Anyone with the desire to attain any of the knowledge they teach there could do it for free, perhaps the social atmosphere of a bunch of potheads is the allure....
The only benefit I could think of is the 'business' and 'legal' if you wanted to open a pharmacy, but as someone else pointed out, Oaksterdam isn't accredited by any governing body. It's entirely possible to start your own pharmacy/business, if that's what you really want to do, without wasting your money.

If you wanna grow something, you put the seed in the soil, water it, and tada. :| Yes, you can get deep into tweeking nature, encourage fruit production, soil studies, feeding, etc. But n a natural, wild environment, cannabis is a hardy plant that can grow with no care at all.

done it what next? current legal status in state doesnt grant such opportunity. Next step then id assume would be to move.

If you already know all that, then why would you pay for the schooling?
I dunno where you live or what your local laws are regarding Marijuana cultivation, but the next thing would be to apply for a license, which would allow legal cultivation for personal usage. Or apply for a growers license if you're looking to sell to pre-existing pharmacies. And then the next thing would be to grow some.

I concur with others:
the OP should figure out whether he's way into getting high or way into learning about cannabis.
...
If Oaksterdam U somehow got accredited, I think I'd much fancy teaching the sociology of drugs there. :)

It is becoming near-impossible to open a new dispensary in California. Keep in mind that while the people of California overwhelmingly support the right of adults to use medical marijuana (and probably close to 50% support legalization at this point), dispensaries/collectives still operate on the wrong end of federal law. Opening or working for a dispensary is not an easy business between permitting, security, quality control of the product, insurance, procurement of real estate.

Oaksterdam is really a brilliant for-profit marketing scheme. They won't be getting any of my money (and I live about 15 minutes from the school). I have no desire to go to cannabis school, my love for the herb notwithstanding, if the school is basically a joke. I hear they spout off quite a bit about jury nullification as well - something nonlawyers should probably not be doing in an "academic" environment.
