Cannabis Pointers

THC prevents you from going into REM sleep, which is why you don't dream and short term memories are not turned into long term memories when you smoke cannabis.

I rarely dream. In fact, I had one recurring nightmare and no other dreams for my first 7 or 8 years of life. I freaked the fuck out when I had my first regular dream, I didn't know you could have more than one. From age 9 to 12 I kept a log every night of my dreams and wrote down any I remembered. In that three year period, I had 5 dreams, 2 of which were that same recurring falling nightmare I've had my whole life.

Yet, at age 16 when I started smoking weed, I began to dream more frequently. It's still rare for me, I'll go months without a dream, but now I'll have a few over a period of a month instead of just one once in a great while. I probably now dream about 10 nights a year.

Also I know that you dream without remembering them, I'm just saying that I remember my dreams even less often than average

try some melatonin 5mg. It'll blow your mind :) It's OTC, so any pharm will have it. I love it - when you first start it's like dreaming = tripping. I really would go to bed early looking forward to my dreams.

I have had a bottle of melatonin for a while, but I don't typically have a problem falling asleep so I never bothered to try it. My issue is more being able to stay asleep. I don't have dreams, I have nightmares, and after one of those I get too scared to go back to sleep. The usual lack of dreaming thanks to weed is one of the reasons I started smoking daily and plan to continue doing so :\

Yeah I've been meaning to try melatonin for a while to help me get to sleep earlier. I sleep fine, but my natural sleep cycle is around 4am to 10am so I was always tired all day. My last job had me working a lot of nights so I forgot about getting the supplements, but now that I'm looking for a new job and know that it can help me dream, I'll definitely pick some up. Thanks

when you start getting high just to stave off boredom you should recognize it as a sign that the habit is taking over your life and stifling your inherent creativity.

a lot of people might know that, but it's important to reaffirm these things. mary jane is always better as a friend with benefits than a commited relationship :)

I would disagree, smoking weed helps me stay interested in the simple things in life, like going for a walk or reading a book or just listening to music and not just having it on in the background. Sure, taking a break now and then is good to help you keep your tolerance down, but it's not necessarily a bad thing to smoke weed e'ry day

admitting that you need to get high just to enjoy a walk, read a book or listen to music is proving my point. if you need weed to keep entertained by even the most leisurely activities than it's clear it has already begun to replace your creativity.

being in love with weed is disturbingly similar to being in love with a woman who is bad for you, it's impossible to resist the temptation to defend her when others are saying you've fallen too hard for her until she burns you so many times you have to admit it's a bad relationship.

I didn't say I needed it to enjoy those things, it just enhances the enjoyment. I do see what you're saying, I'm just saying that not everyone has a problem with it. Yes, I smoke weed almost every day, but I don't need to, and when I don't for long periods [such as going home to visit my dad and family] I don't miss it.

Also, in this day and age with so much entertainment at our fingertips, boredom is a pretty sad thing. I think a lot of people get bored because they have too much shit available to them, and they don't take the time to appreciate every little thing. I do this from time to time and I'm constantly multitasking, but weed does make it easier to slow down for a minute and focus on just one thing.

Hah, this sounds familiar now doesn't it? I guess when I said that to ya the other night, it really was true.

I smoke daily, I know it's definitely problematic for me in some ways, but since I tend to do a ton of different things at once, it allows me to slow myself down and spend some time focused and doing/enjoying just one thing.

EDIT: This time, being high meant I didn't really even remember the purpose of this thread when I posted. And, like chainer, I'm not really sure if this is going anywhere but it's been interesting to read other interpretations of it thus far.

Yeah we did kind of go off on a tangent.

I'm no psyc (yet), but if cannabis is helping you concentrate, you might want to serious look into ADD/ADHD treatment - cannabis is known to help those with ADD "slow down" and concentrate on single subjects in order of importance. There are many studies to support this, but again, you can do that on your own as I've linked these studies in the past many times :)

Personally it does help me as well, but I've already accepted I have some minor form of attention disorder... whether or not it's serious enough to warrant medication is debatable - I think not.

Jibult,

Researchers have demonstrated that THC ingestion decreases SWS and REM sleep, and has sometimes been found to eliminate REM sleep altogether.

Use and withdrawal do not disable REM sleep altogether, but it has been clinically shown to greatly decrease the occurrence of these two stages of sleep.

this. sorry wasn't trying to mislead people.

I think in my case it's more of a personality thing. Plus, the multitasking is a quite useful skill, I'd rather need some weed to occasionally concentrate on one task than lose the ability to always do several things at once in a relatively timely manner.

I was a psych major for a while, and as one of the many misdiagnosed adhd children of the US, I can say that it's just a personality thing. With true ADHD, you are so easily distracted that you cannot stick to one task. I have no problem doing that, I just really like listening to new music when high, and I also find it easier to understand/hear lyrics more when I'm high.

Ifbyou must stray off topic, at least leave a little fun fact alongside w/ever else you have to say. I send this, from my DSi!

Fun Fact: Seeing things move picture by picture when high, is a damn good high.
