Hello my fellow Cannabis enthusiasts :)

I decided to login to Bluelight after a few month break to discuss the issue on Cannabis Legalization. As many of you have probably seen and heard American congress is taking the matter of Cannabis legalization rather seriously.

My question for all of you is, How do you think this will effect the economy? Legalize or no? Explain why you think it should or should not be legalized. Also how long you think it will take for this to be achieved?

And if you happen to have time please look at my Sodahead question and put your honest and or professional opinion in. It would be greatly appreciated! :) (if you want to add something that I should say on my Sodahead feel free to contact me on either my bluelight account or my Sodahead if you have one.)

Writing a letter to my MP

Hey

I have decided to write to my local MP about cannabis, as I am growing more sick on the war on drugs each and every day and thought I should voice my opinion to the idiots that are in charge of us.

I was wondering if you guys could muster the strength and courage to help me make this a fantastic letter that will blow the mind of said member of parliment. I hope to include a reasonable amount of undesputable facts but at the same time come across as level headed and reasonable. Even though those who govern us rarely are I hope not to sink to their level.

Any tips, facts, witty sentences would be much appreciated

Thanks

You could cite Portugal's recent success in halving the number of addicts over the last 10 years by decriminalising drugs. I don't think that there's anything more powerful than concrete evidence when making an argument. It might be worth combining this with an argument that the police would have more time on their hands to deal with actual crimes, which would save money and help with the recession.

I believe it is Boris Johnsons brother, I will have to check with my parents. Im just writing to a generalised MP for now.

Why waste your time writing a letter? Do you thing no one has done that before, or that your letter will be 'the one' that makes change happen?

nope, I don't believe that I am the neo of letter writing. Im just intrested to know what response I will get from what I write. Negativity never helped anyone get things done you know :)

Why not go and visit him. I guarantee you're far more likely to get your point across. Believe it or not, most of them run surgeries and see their constituents.

A letter will almost certainly get binned, or never read.

Well maybe I will send the letter first and if there is no reply then I will gather the courage to talk to one of these people. Im great argueing about the war on drugs with my friends or on the internet. God forbid its towards a law abiding adult who has already surrended to the dogma and propaganda.

I think pretty much everyone here thinks weed should be legal. I'm one of those folks, weed should be totally legal. I think that legalization would definitely help the economy and our society. My primary personal reason for legalization is the experience of being arrested and knowing many people in jail over some bullshit. I think that most things that safely reduce our prison population are good. I think weed will probably be at least regulated and decriminalized federally within the next 50 years, it's so obvious that weed should be legal that people are starting to catch on more. Improved means of communication like the internet and the fact that more and more people smoke the herb helps education spread faster.

I did want to note that on your sodahead you say "Oh and Alqada makes a buttload of money off of afghan goo and afghan kush." and I wanted to say that Afghan Goo and Afghan Kush are strains grown in the US, named for their ancestors from Afghanistan and the Hindu Kush mountains. The Taliban is supposedly involved heavily in the heroin and opium trade, but I don't think any real quantity of marijuana gets exported from the middle east to the US. Not sure about Europe, I know Europeans get hash from the middle east, but it's generally not profitable to traffic weed such a long distance.

IME, writing letters are a waste of time. They never get read by your actual representative, but by their assistants if at all. In response you will get a pre-formed letter that they send to everyone writing about that particular issue. e.g. Oh we got another letter about cannabis legalization print response letter number 17, you know the one where we say we are researching the issue, and mail it to him, now let's get back to business as usual.
