Cannabis essential oil?

I have a few questions about this.....
1. Has anyone with an oil distiller ever tried making it?
2. Would it contain THC/other cannabinoids?
3. Why do I never hear about it? Is hash oil considered cannabis essential oil?
4. What would the consistency be?
5. Would applying it to skin and inhaling the smell affect someone like normal essential oils do?

Thanks

You mean like to get high off ? I have hemp oil, for skin/lips and stuff, but something tells me that's not what you want to know. ;)

I'm making some right now. You boil trim in water and olive oil (1L and 500ml respectively to 50g trim), separate the olive oil and use it for massage. I'm adding bees wax to the bulk of mine to make a salve for topical use which is ideal for arthritis sufferers since it reduces inflammation really well. You can add lavender essential oil to make it smell nice (and less like pungent weed).

Interesting, you know anywhere I can get som more detailed info ? or could you pm me the process ? I think I understand from your short desciprtion, but always better safe than sorry ;)

Here you are:

Many arthritis suffers report that the application of a topical application to arthritic joints, twice a day aids with pain relief and reduces inflamation

Cannabis Cream

Required

500ml olive oil
75 grams of beeswax
50 grams of cannabis trim leaves
1 Litre of water

Ideally the cream should be made in a slow cooker, alternatively a saucepan can be used, however, simmer only, DO NOT boil

Add the oil, trim and water together in your pan or slow cooker

Simmer for 4 hours, stirring every 30 minutes or so

After 4 hours, allow to cool

Pour contents of the pan/slow cooker through a sieve into a clean bowl or plastic container. press the cannabis trim with the back of a spoon to force out as much oil as possible from the trim, discard trim

Place the water and oil solution into the coldest part of the fridge, after 24 to 48 hours (if your fridge is at the correct temperature) the olive oil will solidify, this will allow you to seperate the water from the oil, discard water

Alternatively, the oil and water mix can be placed in the freezer

You should now be left with a slightly green olive oil in solid form

Place oil into a saucepan and gently heat (simmer only) DO NOT boil

Add the beeswax (small pieces of wax disolve quicker than one big piece), keep stirring until all the wax has disolved

Pour into suitable containers, wide necked jars or margerine tubs are best, and allow to cool

Application of the cream twice a day (morning and evening) seems to produce the most favourable results

A few drops of essential oil of lavender can be added with the beeswax if you wish for a less 'canna' aroma

^That seems more like an extract from olive oil than steam distillation

To the OP:
1.Yes, but not to get high. Never heard of anyone personally, just read papers on it.
2.No, or very little, like less than hemp
3.Because it won't get you high(well maybe the terpinoids have an effect, just not like THC). You could argue hash oil is an essential oil. I do know cannabinoids are very essential to me=D.
4.probably like other essential oils, not like hash oil.
5.It might. I forgot what but the terpinoids might be active.

I have wonder that if cannabis could be steam cured like snus or steam distilled leaving the cannabinoids behind leaving something that doesn't smell so obvious to humans and dogs. It's distinct smell comes from caryophyllene and caryophyllene oxide. Caryophyllene oxide is what dogs smell for, not THC. Maybe sacrifice flavor, aroma and possibly some effects(marinol's actually pretty good) for security?

^ sure, but after reading 5. I assumed the OP's intention was to look into producing a massage-type oil, in which case the above recipe would work well. Can't help with steam distillation though, but I suspect it wouldn't be worth it.
