Cannabis and vomiting-a question.

Marijuana use causes cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, which results in nausea and vomiting. However, medical cannabis is prescribed to cancer patients to relieve nausea and stop vomiting. This doesn't make any sense to me. How come in certain cases, cannabis causes nausea and vomiting, but in other cases, cannabis gets rid of nausea and vomiting? It seems sort of paradoxical.

The distinction between the two effects is that one occurs from long-term use and the other occurs from short-term use. It would be interesting to see if the long-term use associated with the condition causes some dysfunction of cannabinoid receptors in the hypothalamus which regulate digestion.

im a heavy pot/alcohol user and over the years i cant recount a single time i have vomited from drinking too much\. i still feel a nauteous/sea sick kind of feeling but the weed seems to eliminate the urge to vomit. It kind of sucks though cause it all sits in your stomach and the hangover can last for days.
