hi there this is my first post and i am not sure where to put this.
i have recently been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and to cut a long story short i have been prescribed amitriptyline for nerve pain and to help me to sleep.
the thing is i use cannabis and have done a bit of reading that suggests that these two substances can cause heart issues.
i am 30 years old and am pretty cardio fit with no heart problems, the low dose of the amitriptyline is 10-20 mgs before bed, the weed is the regular 2 hourly puff in the evenings(medium potency grass).any opinions?
thanks.

Hi there,

I have been taking 20mg ami for about 4 months. Last night I smoked with a friend and my heart was beating so fast I thought it was going to burst. Would not recommend both together. I porously missed my dose of ami the previous night to avoid this interaction, it happened anyway.

It has now been 13 hours since it started and my heart is still beating pretty fast. I have smoked on several occasions with out this effect. Not pleasant at all.

I'm going to leave this here for now, although normally it belongs in our MEGA thread for combo drugs with cannabis, which it will get moved to.

Does anyone have any references on this, like the OP mentioned in the first post but didn't cite?

amitriptyline alone can cause irregular and heightened heartbeat - it's listed right there on the bottle and not hidden at all. Smoking anything will INCREASE the possibility of these side effects, the act of sucking down smoke does that - add to it that people may be prone to freaking out while high - not the best combo.

I'm not sure about amitriptyline but I've smoked with nerve blocks, nerve pain pills (gaba / lyrica) and had pretty enjoyable times.

So this only applies to smoking than, right? If so, couldn't the OP, or anyone taking this medication, just make marijuana edibles?
