I'm an American who is seriously considering moving to Canada after i graduate college. Ever since our government has rescheduled hydrocodone to a schedule 2, it's been hard as fuck trying to find a doctor prescribe me any kind of opiates other than codeine or tramadol. I'm 22. I also have never even had an MRI scan of my back, which i tell the doctors hurts.

A few questions for any Canadians with long term prescriptions to opiate pain medication.

What city/ town do you live in?
What are you prescribed? dosage and quantity?
What are your reasons for the medication? did you have to get an MRI or a scan before getting the medication?
How old are you?

Also another question for anyone: Can Canadian doctors get in trouble for "overprescribing", as in jail time or losing their right to practice?

Lastly if you have some interesting things to add about Canada in comparison to American opiate prescriptions, I'd be happy to hear what it is.

Thank you

I'm surprised you can even get codeine or tramadol without having proof something is wrong with your back. I shattered the right side of my face, forehead, & nose & had to get screws & plates put in & I can't get any painkillers because I'm only 21. I mean I got oxycodone for a while after it happened but I can't get more & I'm in legit pain everyday. I'm in the U.S. by the way.

Use a nurse practitioner. NPs are chill as fuck. They aren't as up tight as MDs, because they don't have as much to lose and were indoctrinated less by the nazi doctors in medical school. They actually view their patients who ask for pain meds as adults making big boy decisions rather than mindless children who need to be reminded not to touch hot things, if they don't want to get burned. That kind of behavior is so insulting. Dude I use the internet I know the shits addictive I don't care. The sooner one of you arrogant dick cowboys gives me a script the sooner I stop wasting time I could be productive with.

Edit: also just start telling them your back hurts. I know people like you who have genuine pain in areas other than their back and the doctors like "Well my text book says you shouldn't be hurting anymore, so I know better than you. You're not in enough pain to warrant opiate pain medication. You can pay my assistant on your way out." The ego on those people.. I'm surprised some of those doctors aren't levitating and wagging their finger when they say shit like that. It is just so arrogant. Sorry to hear that purplehaze.

^Yea that's almost exactly what my surgeon told me, besides the payment part lol. It's really offensive if ur in pain. I haven't asked a doc for pain meds since I was like 16 years old though, it's a lil understandable they'd be afraid to give me opiates.

It's too late to get a prescription for opiates for me anyway. I got into Heroin because of this. My tolerance is too high they can give me 80mg Oxycontin 2x daily & it wouldn't do shit. Even if I take a tolerance break once you've built a tolerance in the past it rapidly builds to where it was at it's peak in like a week or less. Heroin & strong PKs are fucked up. You'll never be able to get an effective prescription dose of opioids even if you have cancer & AIDs if u get addicted to Heroin. I fucked up. Have to use tylenol & weed.

I have a friend who was prescribed hydromorphone for maintenance in Montreal, and know of another woman who was prescribed fentanyl patches (of all things) for maintenance here. I think these cases are few and far between, though, so don't come to Canada expecting to get those kind of prescriptions easily. The vast majority of opioid users that I know do not have prescriptions.

I'm perscribed 80 mg Oxyneos but I have to pay out of pocket and they are pricey
