So, I was reading a lot of things, and the agreement said something along the lines of our identies being given out to the Law and such - but if we don't mention our first or last name on here, and say our employer wants to do a spontaneous background check, I wonder if I am safe?

Or should I just leave? ARE there dangers with being associated with a place like this? And Is there a thread on this board that warns us against these kind of things? I see something adamantly telling us all we shouldn't use swim, which I understand if it doesn't hold up in law or anything and is useless, but what about general rules of thumb for people who are worried about their privacy and maybe in the future 10 years down the line when all internet freedom is done for and say we live in some crazy world where anything we say online we are accountable for even if it was 10 years ago? Oh I'm not paranoid or anything. You just never know.

Also I hear that GOOGLE even gives out info to the feds on who's searching what and I'm honestly really scared. Just got to know where I can learn about this. And then go back into hiding forever and hope I am a very small blip on the radar.

I don't think BL has ever received a subpoena for user information. Being located in the Netherlands has probably helped a great deal with this. We try to keep members from posting incriminating or personally identifiable information. We also try to purge what data we can as soon as it is feasible. I feel safe in being associated with the site but it is really your call about safety and privacy. I don't think anything is 100% guaranteed in life, doing a risk/benefit analysis as your doing is a very good thing to do with many of our involvements.

I'm not sure what google does, I know they fought some government subpoenas when microsoft and yahoo didn't. They certainly do receive and comply with many subpoenas.

what do you mean by "incriminating" - is that all those rules that say that discussion of doing an illegal activity is forbidden? However, the discussion of consumption of drugs is not illegal? Don't mind me if that question is irrelevant. Also, our email addresses can't be linked with our username from some sort of background search/check can they?

I believe that by "incriminating," they mean that you should not post about buying or selling drugs, or writing any details about a crime that you may have committed.

I don't think that anyone would ever get in trouble for writing about being high, but if they are writing about selling drugs, especially in the present and future tense, it is not a good idea. Even IRL, if you were to tell a cop that you had done <insert drug name> a couple of days ago, you aren't going to get in trouble.

Also, listing places is never a good idea. It may bring negative attention to certain events, concerts, etc.

We don't share your email addy with anyone. If you posted an email on the front of the board its likely cached in google, we discourage posting emails on BL. They almost always get edited out by mods when posted.

Again, using BL is up to you. I don't think it is unsafe or putting me on any kind of watch list. If using BL made me anxious about safety and security I wouldn't do it.

I'm sure if u documenting some big crime you plan to commit on BL that can get you in trouble

or if u murdered somebody and came here and told people how u did it and details of the crime

then u could likely get in trouble...

but as far as petty stuff.. or getting high last week.. u will be ok..

[[my first post in Support as an ex-admin. :)]]

using 'SWIM' is annoying to read, and also happens to stand for 'Someone Who IS ME'. genius idea, that one.

don't tell the entire www & the google cache about how much drugs you currently have in your possession, or talk about buying/dealing, or ask others to supply you with drugs, or talk about taking acid at XXX event next Sunday. this is not rocket science man.

the moderators can't even see your email address, let alone any outsiders (police, employers).
