barbituates aren't Rx'ed as much because benzos are a safer alternative and have a lower abuse/addiction potential...I think reactions to benzos are also a bit more predictable than barbituates...

Yeah, I know what you meant. More tend to find alprazolam more recreational, anyway. I don't find either of them all that recreational to be honest. Of all the anxiolytics, I find diazepam to be most recreational.

I think the short, intermediate and long-acting hypnotics to be more "addictive" of all the benzos IMHO.

How is this question any different than rpgoddesses post about getting prescribed tramadol and something stronger such as oxycontin? I understand she mentioned her partner sometimes taking the tramadol however it seemed to me the core of the question was her wondering if that would be normal procedure for a doctor, which it is. Many doctors prescribe tramadol in conjuction with a heavier narcotic pain reliever and either recommend taking the tramadol between doses or in place of the stronger narcotic when applicable. Sorry for going off topic here I was just a bit surprised that post was closed and this left open for opinions when they are virtually the same question. Goddess if you're still around the boards, hopefully that answers your question.
