can you be an occasional smoker?

^ Just because something "feels good" in a selfish way doesn't mean it's a good idea.

How about doing something that makes you feel good AND spreads the joy to others? Like expressing your creativity.

And, where did you get the idea that smoking doesn't kill you? You might not drop dead from your first puff on a cigarette, but a steady habit will drastically accelerate your aging.

Death from inhalation

damn I thought this was a weed question, but cigs occasionally, no don't see it staying a fling for long, before long she wants to meet the parents and move in...it's all downhill from here, bottom line put it down or never pick it up. It's like a legal form of crack, it's the fuckin worse

^^Not everything we do that feels good has to spread joy to others, that's silly. There's nothing wrong with solitary joy.

Smoking can kill you, and it's very addictive as tobacco is the most addictive substance there is, but it's possible to smoke occasionally and not die. It's just very unlikely that you won't become addicted. I smoke about 2-3 packs per year though, I'll smoke 2 or 3 cigs per week when I have a pack and when I run out I usually don't bother to buy more for 3 or 4 months and then repeat. I smoke a lot of weed, which I think makes me less into the idea of cigarettes because I just don't want to inhale that much more smoke most days.

And yes, cigarettes are that bad for you.

So i suppose because no one else gets joy from my masturbating, i shouldnt do that either? Or eat nice food? Or read? Or do any of the many things that everyone does everyday that only they enjoy?

Thats just stupid.

And i dont really want to live that long, 30 ish sounds about right, so yeah i dont really care.

You still haven't explained why on earth you claimed smoking won't kill you!?

Its pretty obvious isnt it? The government doesnt like tobacco companies because they have a monopoly on tobacco, so they have to legitimize why they tax cigarettes so much. Saying that they cause disease and cancer which then impacts the economy and countries well-being, justifies a large tax. :\

:| ... I wasn't trying to say that solitary pleasure is a SIN. I'm just suggesting that you need to evaluate the pros and cons of anything you do, instead of simply doing it on the basis that it feels good. That should be obvious. A pedophile shouldn't force innocent children to relieve his libido just because it makes him feel good.

This is a fundamental issue with the way most people think. Being healthy is NOT about living to the age 93. It's not about breaking the age entry in the Guinness Book of World Records. People assume that you're either alive or dead. That as long as you're alive, you're whoever you are, you have the same intelligence, the same capabilities, the same essence. It's an essentialism, really. That couldn't be farther from the truth. Life isn't binary: life / death. There is a whole spectrum, a whole continuum, of degrees of livelihood, ranging from death to the greatest possible state of health. If you don't respect your health, you become a weaker and very much less "alive" organism. Your body AND mind deteriorate, and you become less capable of doing anything and everything that you want to do.

Even something as simple as having a debate with your friend benefits from an agile and healthy mind (which, by the way, is difficult to achieve if tar from tobacco smoke is preventing your lungs from oxygenating your brain), because you'll be able to provide more creative insight into the issue.

Nope. The idea that smoking kills is NOT government propoganda. All of my older family members that smoke have badly damaged respiratory systems. It's pretty pathetic.

Alot of most creative and profound artists are smokers. Clearly it doesnt hinder you that much.

As for health? I smoke heaps, a pack a day or round about, and my wounds heal super quick, i feel alert and awake everyday, i never get sick - literally, and my life consistently gets better every passing moment.

I actually feel smoking has improved my life ALOT.

I know a lot of people who only smoke when they are using stims/MDMA (every month or so) they have no need or desire to smoke when sober so based on that, I would say Yes you can be an occasional smoker.

yeah its bad for my lungs and vascular system, but im young and those things are better than most anyway so they can handle a bit of a handicap.

well i think im gonna only smoke one every saturday/sunday.

ill use the cravings to try and make me mentally stronger=D

^ LOL, hope you were joking there buddy. :)

If you want a healthier nicotine buzz but don't want to give up the ritual smoking, I will suggest something the Native Americans call "mapacho". It's a type of tobacco that packs a much higher concentration of nicotine than common tobacco, so to achieve your desired high (or satiate your addiction), you'll be burning a lot less plant, and inhaling a lot less tar and other unwanted nasties.

Furthermore, if you buy mapacho from an ethnobotanical vendor, it isn't going to contain all of the unnecessary toxic adulterants that are found in cigarettes to make them burn more quickly or taste better or feel smoother etc.

Also, instead of rolling it in paper and smoking that too, put it in a pipe...

I hope you're joking too.

Nicotine is very addictive. I'm not going to compare it to other drugs because different drugs do different things to different people. But it's still very addictive.

Yes, you look cool smoking a cigarette now but eventually that wears off. Why smoke cigarettes when there are so many other drugs you can do that are more fun and do less damage (tongue in cheek)?

I graduated college just under a year ago, and I've seen many of my friends go from just smoking at parties, to just smoking when they're drinking to just smoking in general. It creeps up on you like all addictions do.

I live in Richmond, VA, the source of most of the cigarettes in the world. Look at the side of your pack of Marlboros. Anyway, lots of people here smoke and I don't look at them any differently vs. somebody who doesn't smoke. I don't smoke cigarettes because they're expensive and I have enough drug addictions to deal with but I hang out with a lot of smokers and it's not a problem. Again, I've seen lots of people go from "I just smoke when I'm drinking" or "I'm a social smoker" to somebody who is buying a pack every day or two.

Did I mention that cigarettes are very expensive? Because they are. I don't know where you live, but they're probably even more expensive there. Say a pack costs $5, and you buy 4-5 packs a week with a good smoking habit, that's $20-$25 every week. 52 weeks a year x $25 a week comes to $1300 a year. That's a lot of money. Put the health risks out of your mind and look at the financial risks. The cost itself should be enough to turn you off from smoking. :)

Smoking cigarettes makes you look cool in high school, but when you get to college its different. Stop while you can, you will be thankful in a year or two that you did.

well im underage so im not sure where i'd get this 'mapacho'.

do you know what kinda cig has the highest nicotine levels?

^ No, but it's not difficult to order tobacco online if you're underage. When I was younger, I'd do stuff like that all the time. I never had to prove my age.

Yeah man smoke marlboro reds, they are pretty strong nicotine wise and they taste the best.
