I have only experienced the "rush" once in my life, and it was while I was getting my wisdom teeth out. Two were impacted, and so I needed day surgery. I sat in the chair and had an IV hooked up, and from what I can remember there were two bags. One had a clear liquid in it, the other a white, milky looking liquid. The first to be administered was the clear, and I don't really recall any particular effect from it. However as soon as the milky liquid hit my vein, it was as if Picard had just said "engage".
Anyhow, I assume the milky liquid was propofol, the clear either saline or a benzo. But neither of those is an analgesic. So my question is, can propofol be used on its own during surgery (I was never completely out)? And can it deliver the "rush" I experienced? Or was there likely an opioid involved that I just didn't realize? I also had a mask over my nose and they told me it delivered an analgesic, so if I needed more pain relief to breath heavy through my nose. But I don't recall it working very well.
