I have hypothesized for some time that phenibut would provide at least some relief from opiate withdrawals due to its structural similarity to the drug pregabalin. It is fairly common knowledge to those experienced with opiates that the drug pregabalin can provide a lot of relief from withdrawal symptoms but not everyone has access to this drug as it requires a prescription and is a schedule 5 drug (not sure how difficult it would be to get this drug). The mechanism of action responsible for this relief is pregabalin's ability to bind to specific subunits of voltage-gated calcium channels in the CNS. Recently it was discovered that phenibut binds to the same subunits as pregabalin and therefore I would suspect phenibut can provide relief from the muscle/nerve pain that can occur during opiate withdrawal in a manner similar to pregabalin. Has anyone every used phenibut to help with opiate withdrawal and if so how does it compare with pregabalin?
