Okay so i was introduced to mdma over a year ago. I have noticed signs of anxiety/depression/bipolar syndrome, all that crap in myself never been diagnosed but can feel somethings up. The thing is though that i may very well have had anxiety as a kid before i even knew what mdma was. Also on my second mdma trip i even thought to myself i cant believe the depressive thoughts and actions that have come to come into my head in the past, furthermore at that moment i seemed to know exactly what i need to do with my life to make my dreams become reality, unfortunetly it was probably the best moments of my life. i feel like i learned a lot from mdma and that it has helped me in some way even tho the i feel blue sometimes. Im not saying im a depressed kid who doesnt do anything in fact i still live a good happy life BUT some days i will go through moods feeling really depressed and i do feel anxious a lot.

My main question is could mdma really be blamed for me feeling depressed/anxious or could it be that i was always this way. Is this normal, does everyone feel this way sometimes(even ppl who dont use)

i have probably done 15-25 (too much i know that) pills in the last year and have not used in 2 1/2 months. should i continue to use mdma in moderation because i love the drug and feel its a really good time OR should i shut it out of my life?

This is my first time posting on bluelight (long time viewer) and i would REALLY appreciate ANY knowledgeable answers you can give me. Please feel free to let me know about your expierences and how you cope with the way mdma changed your life
THANKS IN ADVANCE

if you've been abusing, then yea, you can definitely attribute the downness and depressed feelings.
you're not letting the serotonin fully replenish, and thats the neurotransmitter that causes you to be happy and shit. without it, there is a real chance that you'll become depressed, and have anxiety.

If you abuse MDMA, theres enough evidence out there to show that it does indeed fuck with your head. So yeah you can blame the MDMA, but not before blaming yourself for abusing it in the first place. ;)

Yeah if your taking any mood altering substance I think if's safe to say there will be ups as well as down's, but this is natural. You just have to ask yourself if I take stuff often will I suffer as as result? if you can't answer that question, then keep taking stuff until you can. :)

There isn't anything all that natural about putting lab chemicals in your brain, depending on your perspective. From a different vantage point it is just as natural as anything else. Since the brain is responsible for a whole lot, and Mdma alters the brain possibly permanently, it could very well mess your mind up.

For most people I think the problems are subtle and not all that noticeable. I think that if you are feeling those negative emotions then you might have a very strong dissatisfaction with something in your life, as do I. And if you do, then taking Mdma might exacerbate those issues, making you even more susceptible to depressive or anxious states of being.

I've never met an E-tard, and I know plenty of Mdma users, but there is a decent amount of evidence out there suggesting that this stuff can cause more than just depression and anxiety. Apparently, if you do it a whole lot it can make you retarded.

Yes.

It increases cortisol levels 800% above normal!!!
After cortisol and brain serotonin finally begin to fall, about 90 minutes post dose, the greatest inhibition of anxiety occurs.
If this drug is capable of causing such an impressive drop in anxiety, why couldn't it cause real depression and anxiety afterwards?

The fact that this is even in question illustrates the ongoing denial that MDMA, like all drugs, causes damage to the mind.
Yes - MDMA can cause 'depression and anxiety' unlike ANYTHING you could imagine.

The path to recovery is very dark, very intense, and very long.
If only I could share this experience without the use of a keyboard...

Ermm....this isn't the case with everyone....quit trying to scare people.
it's normally the result of abusing, but it is in no way a guarantee with responsible use. often times people will just have bouts of depersonalization, which can easily be confused with depression for someone who has never experienced either.
Also, some are more prone to the anxiety aspect than others, but usually you'll know if you're more susceptible to it based on past experiences with anxiety.

I guess i am going to wait about another month for a total of 3 months+ before i use again with a small dose. I believe that using 3 times a year maximum will cause no damage and only make your life better (right?). The point im trying to make its hard to blame m for mental problems because there are so many factors and it could possibly help. Thanks for the answers.

Rather than saying "i'm gonna roll [x amount] of times per year", just keep it restricted to special occasions, you'll find that you're rolling less and that when you do roll, it will have more meaning.

MDMA is a 'selective' neurotoxin that targets higher cortical serotonin axons.
It causes a lasting re-organization of the ascending axonal structure, leaving higher brain regions de-nervated and lower brain regions with original or hyper-innervation (esp. the hypothalamus).

This is seen in several animal models of use, particularly those involving re-dosing.
In primates, even modest 'binge-models' have produced long lasting alterations to the serotonin structure.

In human users, there is evidence that even in moderate use (including those that seldom use other drugs and alcohol) there are detectable cognitive alterations. And a clear dose-response curve is seen in all lines of research, with heavier users exhibiting the greatest loss in cognition, endocrine function, and markers of serotonin function.

Some alarming studies of former human MDMA users have found that even after 2-3 YEARS of abstinence, prolactin response to serotonin agents (such as MDMA, pipes, fenfluramine, tryptophan) is significantly lower than in control subjects. This suggests that endocrine function in the brains of these ecstasy users is permanently altered. Other studies have shown ongoing dopamine suppression in striatal dopamine neurons as well as loss of SERT (serotonin transporter) function in the frontal lobes - also at 2-3 years post abstinence.

Whether or not MDMA causes damage is NOT in debate any longer.
Only the extent of damage that occurs at a given dosage remains to be clarified.
And many scientists believe that even the first few doses produce life-long alterations in the highest regions of the brain.

Quite obviously most people do not experience serious 'depression' or 'anxiety' after their first few experiences.
And there is considerable evidence that the heaviest cannabis users suffer the greatest psychological damage from MDMA...
It should also be noted that MANY studies can be found that fail to show loss in endocrine, SERT, and dopamine function among many MDMA users.
These studies at least prove that any damage done to these users is not easily detected with current imaging technology.
And that perhaps some people really are more susceptible to 'damage' than others.

But your question was simple.
Can MDMA be blamed?

Um, yes.
Among other factors.

Accept the fact that MDMA damages the brain's most intricate neurotransmitter system.
Roll with that knowledge.
All else is denial of truth.

With all drugs, dosage is pretty important.
In fact nearly everything we eat, drink, and take as medication has a dosage that could be labeled 'toxic'.

But MDMA is special in its ability to cause serious changes to the brain with a relatively low dose.
I usually redosed once every time I rolled.

The first time I rolled two weekends in a row, and two days in a row, I ended up with an extremely serious reaction known as serotonin syndrome.
Compared to many stories on BL my 'binge' is pretty mild.
Many have stated the use of hundreds of pills without consequence!

But research shows, time after time, that MOST heavy users discontinue their use between 100-250 lifetime doses.
Sure enough, some of them parade around BL claiming that the rest of us are just 'susceptible' to problems.
Who are you going to believe?

The bottom line is to control dosage with MDMA, and NEVER roll two days in a row.
Minimum spacing is 90 days, and this is still too often for some people.
Nobody escapes the use of a neurotoxic drug without some 'damage'.
But not all are destined to feel anxiety as a result.

Thanks for your answer first bad come down. i know that u are very informed about mdma and all the dangers that come with it. No doubt it causes changes and only some people will actually notice/accept the negative effects. Like i said my experiences with m were some of the happiest moments of my life which is why it is so hard for me to cut it out of my life. Bottom line is all drugs are bad and should be stayed away from but i crave them as a result of my depression/anxiety, especially in social situations.

in the summer i had about a week long binge on vacation with other drugs too and the comedown was awful : my brain is still recovering. I really didnt think it would be such a big deal, but it is. I hate to say it but drugs are bad LOL.

Would it be safe to say ALL drugs cause some sort of damage? Would it be safe to say ALL damage can be recovered?

Drugs give you an experience, and experience changes you. Is this brain damage? Most certainly not. MDMA most certainly does damage to the brain but it's usually not the drugs that are hurting you. It's YOU. Abuse weed, you get anxiety, are you a smoker, you're health will suffer, eat too much fastfood and you will get fat and you're cholesterol will go through the roof. The list goes on. Who are we to say that all these things are bad and evil. We are the ones abusing it. MDMA is and has always been a beautifull substance for me, and if I DO get problems, I'll blame myself. NOT the drug. It's completely up to you how often you are rolling and it's your risk to take.

That is all.

I dont feel like taking md anymore. I am taking a break to explore other avenues of mind expansion. I could not do this if I did not feel I knew mdma so well. I dont need it right now and I want it to continue to reward me.

I looked at the thread title, but didn't read the post. The answer is yes, more so than other drugs.
