Ive used versed for anxiety iv and im,i work in a hospital setting and live in india where hep c is very common, the water is not that hygenic i think and there are lots of hep c positiv patients in hospitals.ive used tap water to open
at times by wetting a cloth and breaking ampoules with it so that the breaking glass sound does not reach others
Ive done this for about three months
Ive never shared a needle but reused my owns
Im freaked, and scared to take the test, what are the chances u guys??

Im just too scared, there are no anonymous testing areas in the country,i cant go to my own hospital lab because my veins ar almost gone and the tester will find out ive iv'ed..he'll have to do a radial tap and my family can wud see the bruise on my wrist,im just so regretful and scared...how completely stupid it was of me...

I've been wondering the same thing myself because I shared needles with a guy about 7 months ago. I never used needles before and swore I never would IV but was going through a real rough patch where I was on self-destruct mode. Found out just now that his ex-gf has hep C. I know I need to get checked but have no proper insurance and don't know where to go besides hospital. What I did was really stupid and there's nothing I can do now. I can't let this go on, not knowing. To the OP, go to another hospital where they don't know you.

^ if you are in the US donate blood they test for Hep C and will send the results back to you
its free and you may even get a free movie ticket... you do have to lie and say you have never iv'ed tho

OP honestly I dont know much about India but it sounds like your chances are fairly low... Does a lot of blood contaminate the tap water at the hospitals there?

Testing is easy for hep c. They really only need to prick your finger to test if you have been exposed. After the preliminary test is where your blood is taken to determine the amount of the virus in your blood and liver enzymes n shit. That's just an fyi.
As far as it being in tap water its probably damn well possible in lesser developed countries. Hep c is very resiliant it is possible it can get in the water supply i would imagine.
Not an expert on the subject though.

not sure but you may also be able to go to a free std clinic in the US to get tested because despite the fact that the probably of sexual transmission of hcv is exceptionally low its still sometimes listed as an std... which kinda pisses me off in a wierd way

In the United States they have over the counter Hep C tests where you give a blood sample, fed ex it into a lab, and call to get your results. You can also get tested through a doctor or at a free testing clinic. Good luck. See if they have testing like this in India.

Hep C is usually transmitted via blood to blood contact not from using unclean water.

Yes they're plenty of blood in the severage, the tap water comes from deep water well, which apparently dont have bacteria/viri..but if theres a sewage leak in the plumbing...although ive never though the water was smelling funny except once at my home...and i dont know if the hospwater comes from deep or shallow wells, shallow wells have bacteria and viri....the hospital houses 1000 begs and abt 80 percent positive.im very sure i have hep c,giv me a verdict and i'll go see if ive ruined my life.theres no anonymous testing here

In addition the water supply in the town isnt treated (haha) juat from wells and the sewage go to rivers.thats india for you..and me now since i suppose ive ruined my life

I have had Hep C & am now fully recovered from it . It can be treated with INterferon & other drugs . The Side Effects of the treatment aren't pleasANt but it is no Death Sentance .
I'm 36 now & i was diagnosed with Hep C when i was 28 i did 8 months of that treatment & i was fine after . My liver has know recovered it is a remarkable organ .
Get Tested N then treated if necessary & stop procrastinating .
Good Luck .

I know people that contracted Hep C in the 1970s and 80s, never used a needle since then and have never shown symptoms...the truth is, in MOST cases it takes a long time before you even get symptoms....If you were using needles that only you used, and water that wasn't directly contaminated with blood from somebody else, you may be worrying too much....It's very treatable and definitely is not the end of the world....you could probably send blood from India to th US or somewhere in Europe for testing and get your results by phone...I'm sure theres a way thats not too expensive

Thanks brimz and bluehues for the support nd everyone else :) im not sure when to get tested,i was using tap water to open ampules up till four days ago, should i get tested now and 3 months later again? What do u think? I'll hav to go to the lab tech in my hospital and that doesnt involve confidentiality here, anyway i'll go say i got pricked by a positiv pateint and to take a sample.the good thing is they dont fire u if u have contracted it. Thanks in advance

Bluehues i remember i injected in a bathroom at my home where the water always smelled funny, like sewage honestly, and i used that to to open ampoules without realizing wat i was thinking...at least about 20 times i think, i could hav hep c from that, wat do you think honestly? Im going to get tested in two weeks anyway, but until then im going to assume i have it and keep my family sheilded.

Brimz how long after exposure did u develop symptoms?

It's pretty hard to get hepatitis C from casual contact, so I wouldn't worry about your family as long as you're not sharing toothbrushes, razors or anything that could get contaminated with blood...Hepatitis a can be gotten from seawge and shellfish etc. but not hepatitis C..it's primarily blood on blood contact....Hepatitis A comes on quicker and can be deadly but goes away on it's own...C is generally chronic, although it usually takes a long time to develop into something life threatening...Someone correct me if I'm wrong here

I think thats right, but if hepatitis c was present in sewage water, and got injected, because ive been injecting intramuscular, then a person could get it,and im starting to worry about hiv too, althought its not that prevalent here, what a paranoid idiot i am.

Id also like to mention (i know im irritating) that during my drug use period i had to undergo dexamethasone (decadron) therapy for a condition, its a potent corticosteroid, which lowers immunity,i had to take it this past week too,i read somewhere it activates hep c nd causes symptoms but i cud be seriously mistaken, any thoughts?
